ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- A woman, who attempted to overtake a ‘political motorcade’ and ended up colliding with another vehicle, is facing jail time if she fails to pay $850 in court fines.

Desiree Gomez denied she was driving without due care and attention on February 24, 2019, when she made her maiden appearance before Magistrate Ayanna O. Baptiste-DaBreo last week.

She; however, entered guilty pleas to the charges of driving an unlicensed vehicle and driving when not covered by insurance.

Prosecutors said that on the day in question Gomez was heading west when she became caught up in a political motorcade near C & D Grocery in Hannah’s Estate on Tortola.

The defendant attempted to overtake the motorcade when she reportedly collided with another vehicle, damaging both her car and the complainant’s vehicle in the process.

The matter was reported to the Road Town Police Station and an investigation was launched. Gomez was then charged with the offences.

Magistrate DaBreo imposed a $100 fine for driving an unlicensed vehicle and $750 for driving when not covered by insurance.

If she fails to pay the fines, Gomez would have to spend two months and seven days at Her Majesty’s Prison.

Gomez is scheduled to return to court on November 25, 2019 for trial on the charge of driving without due care and attention.

Just that ? How about fixing the other person vehicle n compensating them for loss of use .. From my driving experience women drivers in the BVI the whole Caribbean are the most impatient and indiscipline on the road..

Generalizing all women drivers in the BVI and the Caribbean on a whole is unfair to say the least. Hey, please be fair in your judgement against women. All are certainly not the same! Have a blessed day.

You have to be an IDIOT to bring attention to yourself, knowing you had no proper credentials on you. I hope the other vehicle she hit sues her behind. She needs jailing just for being so STUPID!

Some of u bloggers just crack me up.. lol thx for the jokes.. first of all the article didn’t say she wouldn’t be held accountable for fixing the other person’s vehicle.. it spoke to her being held accountable for breaking the Law.. I would assume that the driver for the vehicle she hit would make her pay to fix it and not let her get off “Scott-free”.. and as for “hmmm” you need to stop generalizing about women for some of them are better drivers than some of you men.. at times all of us get a bit impatient when driving but she was wrong on many levels..
