Wolues blown away by Blues
Fahie has now scored back to back hat tricks and with her scoring streak, No Fear cruised to their third successive win to stay on top of the Johnny Hassan Women’s League.
Her first was after only two minutes, a well placed shot across the goal following a through ball from Dalia Sonny, who had harassed a pair of Wolues defenders into losing possession. The second, in the 21st minute, the result of a curious moment when the Wolues goalkeeper inexplicably placed the ball on the ground before clearing it and allowing Fahie the simplest of tap ins.
Fahie had been on another of her mazy runs and caused mayhem in the heart of the Wolues defense before bringing out a fine save from the keeper, so maybe she deserved her piece of good fortune.
The Wolues, without the injured Kyra Ali, offered little as an attacking force, and midfielder Cassandra Gregg was able to control things for No Fear and set up many of her team’s attacks through the composed Keliene Smith or the energetic Makeda Fahie. However, it wasn’t until the second half that they were able to break down a resolute defense led by Rachel Sexton.
“It was a great, clean shot,” noted Fahie. “I’m very pleased to score the hat trick and hope the rest of the teams take note!”
Almost immediately after the restart, Fahie was at it again, causing havoc in front of the Wolues goal, this time beating Lauren Aitken to the ball, taking a touch and firing an unstoppable shot past the advancing keeper and ahead of Sexton’s despairing attempt to block the shot.
The fourth and final goal arrived just 3 minutes later and once again the Wolues failed to clear the ball following a cross from the right allowing Sonny to force the ball home from close range.
Coach Thomas Albert who is handing the reins over to Jeffrey Demming as he has to go back to St Lucia was a very pleased man with his team’s performance. “Very happy, I hope they keep up the good work and I will be back next year.”
He was also full of praise for his hat trick hero Fahie. “She’s a very good player, very strong and knows how to step up,” he commented, “If she continues her hard work she will get better and the team can win the league.”
