WNBA Coach facilitates 3X3 Basketball Christmas Camp
According to a press release from the BVIOC, the camp was held ahead of the Road U13 and U16 3x3 basketball Holiday District Tournament, which took place over the weekend December 21–22, 2024.
Specialist trainers
The camp, which started on December 16, featured special guest trainer Tanisha Wright, an accomplished basketball professional and former head coach of the Atlanta Dream in the WNBA.
Renowned for her leadership and tactical expertise, Coach Wright, provided interactive sessions focusing on skill development, teamwork, and the fundamentals of basketball in a unique opportunity for young athletes to prepare for the tournament, the release stated.
“We were very happy to have been able to host this Christmas Camp in partnership with the BVIOC,” said Mr Milton C. McLean, President of the Sea Cow’s Bay Basketball Club.
Having Coach Wright join the team as a trainer he added was a tremendous opportunity for the young players to learn from one of the best in the sport.
The Christmas Camp for boys and girls also benefited from the expertise of coaches Mr Amos “Dragon” Pickering, Mr D’jahniah Pemberton, and Mr Jason Audain Jr.
Participants were able to hone skills
The basketball camp allowed youth players the chance to interact with peers, hone their skills, and gain valuable insights from the pros ahead of the Holiday District Tournament.
Meanwhile, BVIOC President Mr Ephraim E. Penn, President said, “Basketball is not just a game; it’s a platform for teaching discipline, resilience, and community spirit. This camp and the tournament are part of our ongoing commitment to nurturing young athletes and promoting sports in the Virgin Islands.”
