DUFF’S BOTTOM, Tortola, VI- Second District Representative and Opposition Member Hon Melvin M. Turnbull has questioned why residents who have been approved through the various protocols established to protect the territory during the pandemic are neither allowed to drive themselves home to quarantine nor are they allowed to drive to conduct the day 4 testing, but are trusted to stay home during their quarantined period.

Hon Turnbull asked the question of Minister for Health and Social Development Hon Carvin Malone (AL) during the question and answer segment of the Eleventh Sitting of the Third Session of the Fourth House of Assembly (HoA) of the Virgin Islands held at Save the Seed Energy Centre in Duff's Bottom on August 16, 2021.

According to Hon Malone, quarantined persons are monitored through the assigned monitoring devices to ensure that they do not breach quarantine.

He said transportation is also provided to limit opportunities for the breaching of quarantine.

“In addition, Mr Speaker, the Orders have been amended to give incentives to stay home by the imposition of fines.”

Asked by Speaker Hon Julian Willock if he had any follow-up to the answer give, Hon Turnbull said: “Mr Speaker, I will rest here because I am sure the follow-ups will come from the public.”

Additionally, fines under the Covid-19 Control and Suppression (Entry of Persons) Regulations, 2020 have increased.

Heavy fines for quarantine breaches

In the Virgin Islands, those who tamper with and damage the geofencing device worn by people in quarantine face a fine of $2,000 while those who have unauthorised visits with people in quarantine face a fine of $5,000.

Anyone breaching mandatory quarantine faces a fine of $10,000.

Anyone failing to comply with a quarantine order faces a fine not to exceed $10,000.

The fines represented a drastic increase in December 2020 after reports of persons breaching quarantine.

    Why is the CURFEW still on, how many cases are there now. Remove it TODAY please. We didnt get no agenda $$$$$ to keep promoting this fake plandemic with poisonous vaccine. Most of all noyone has the right to lock anybody down without a crime

      I am going to disagree with you about the fake pandemic and poisonous vaccine. I respect your belief and opinion but, this is no fake pandemic The whole world is going through this pandemic. New Zealand is going on lock down after a case popped up.

    Since covid came out influenza A & B packed their bags jumped in a rocket and left this realm. These percentages are just the same as the so called flu. You have 0.5% chance of dying from so called flu which they have renamed as covid. Remember they have never isolated this virus or any other virus at that. People don’t get sick people are being poisoned, the body needs to detox from this poison and we end up with symptoms, this is the healing process. Cells within our body literally push & sweat the poison out, but the establishment have boxed & packaged up the healing process in the name of “contagious viruses”.     @ CRAP. let's hope the world remembers all this crap when it comes election time. This is not an election thing it's a worldwide pandemic. A thing that is controlled by science. May be we are all qualified as scientist.

    Constitutional violation at it's best under the disguise of laws and regulation.

    A competent court should easily toss out the fines or refuse to institute any custodial sentences due to the violation of people's fundamental rights and freedom

    Honourable Turnbull , reason is that the government is doing their part and trusting that those people will do the right thing. Now, if the government allow persons to do what you asked and along the way they decide to go and galavant all through Tortola who will get the blame?
