ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Radio talk show host and commentator Edmund G. Maduro has asked the question why a territory so well off as this one does not provide more for its people in terms of education and health care.

Maduro was speaking on his EGM Show aired on ZROD 103.7 FL on Thursday night July 9, 2015.

"Given the type of diseases that are showing up today and given the contaminated foods that we are eating, medical care can be commercialised to the extent that you and I will have to sell every inch of property that we have in order to pay for our medical care," he said.

He pointed out that in Cuba medical care is free and it is the same for education.

"Why if we are such a successful territory in terms of financial services and tourism etc. we can't do for our people the same as Fidel Castro has done for his people?" asked Maduro.

Elected representatives only care about their pockets

Maduro believes that the people elected to represent the masses care less about them and more about their own financial fortunes.

"You know why? Because the very people we elected to represent us don't really care about us but about representing themselves and are only looking at what goes into their pockets," he said.

Waxing biblical, Maduro noted that the good book warned about this type of government. “The love of money is the root of all evil and greed destroyeth a nation,” he said, noting that this is something he has been talking about repeatedly on his show which has been on the air for a number of years.

He warned the people of the territory that should they not observe and speak out in protest against these things, they will continue along the path of destruction.

Mr E. Maduro & eye for and eye. It is easy to throw out these remarks but remember bvi has no medical colleges
so when funds has to be paid for medical school which are very expensive who pays, would'nt govt have to raise
taxes or implement austerity measures.Remember you are the ones blaming govt for selling out these islands and
crying when certain fees are raised,so would both of you come out on a forum and explain to us how you would do
such a thing and generate the funds for this venture.By the way education is free we only pay a small portion yet we
complain but not when we are buying the latest phones, bags or shoes.

In cuba a dictator live their lives for them. in the BVI we have free choice and I happen to like it that way thank you. if we want to have free choice then a lot of things can't be free.

We are not democratic and neither is our government. They are pushing a socialist style of governing, e.g. NHI. Wake up! Taxes will go up or something else to compensate them fattening their pockets after getting rid of PAYE. Poor us. Only Jesus can help us now!

In Cuba there are no (greedy) landlords, the taxi drivers are not extortionists, you don't need "scholarship" to study anything; all you need to do is get good grades; scholarships are automatic. You don't receive special favours based on what your surname is. Parents cannot come to school and force teachers to change their children's grades because of what their names are. Every province boasts at least one medical school, one pedagogical college, one sports college and one techincal school; some provinces have several.
They have over 3 million tourists coming from high end destinations coming to their shores each year. Wait until Mr. bronson starts flying there in 2017 and Carnival starts sending cruise ships there next year. Each province also has at least one International Airport; some have two.
And they turn out 12000 medical doctors annualy.
    Take your pick!

I say we send Mr Maduro Cuba to live so he can have free health care and education. I swear this man don't think before he talks, or he just wants ratings for his show?

At least if we can't have them free reduce the cost as to make it feasible for all as it is not all of us can get up and go overseas for medical and to advance our education.Perhaps there is a way out for all and not some. The whole system needs revamping and then we will have a better BVI for all to live.

Its simple. Do what Cuba does and pay Government workers $20 per month. And by the way, Government workers run pretty much everything.
You cannot just cherry pick the best parts of a society.
