ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Doug Wheatley, host of the local talk show ‘Speak Out BVI’ sent out a cry to his listening audience for the return of Government wheelchairs to the Peebles Hospital, which are urgently needed.

On his show that aired last evening, August 28, 2012 on a local radio station, he stated that while at the local hospital with his mother, she had to share a wheel chair with six other patients.

He stated that the hospital only has one wheel chair in its possession.

Mr. Wheatley said that while at the hospital, he spoke to a young man, who also was in the running for the use of the chair, who told him that instead of spending all that time on his show talking about independence, it is time he spoke of some health issues.

Speak Out BVI’s host stated that he had indeed heard of the inadequacy of the number of chairs available at the Peebles Hospital and had raised it with workers and personnel at the hospital.

According to Mr. Wheatley he said that the persons he spoke with quickly agreed that there are an insufficient number of chairs available at the hospital, but they also quickly pointed out that they have lost chairs periodically.

He concluded that it seems that persons have walked away with the chairs out of the emergency room that belong to the government.

In a plea, he asked persons who inadvertently took a chair in the past, to return them, as well as those who are using the available chair, when they take their loved ones out to the car, to always remember to return the chair.

It is not a serious issue! It is a simple fix.

This is shameful how people treat other peoples property, same thing happen to me in UK, i needed crutches and there were none available in size i needed. Hospital said it was because they give the crutches as a loan but people rarely return them when they should, what a sad society we have created, its not just the BVI

With all the millionnaires this territory has, residents cannot afford to buy wheel chairs?

    Shameful!!

My husband had surgery at St.Thomas hospital, the nurse pushed him in the wheel chair right up to the jeep he was leaving in and she took back the hospital's wheel chair with her. Why would Peebles allow the patient to leave without ensuring that the wheel chair is not returned??????
