ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Speaking on Virgin Islands Voice on April 16, 2025, Premier and Minister of Finance Dr the Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) has commended his Minister for Communications and Works, Hon Kye M. Rymer (R5) for the progress he has made with addressing the state of the roads in the territory.

Premier Wheatley said Minister Rymer has been doing a lot of road works, including paving. “I drove down Joe’s Hill and it was such a big difference….because for many years we saw some areas had asphalt and some areas didn’t, it was very uneven, and a lot of our taxi drivers use that route to Cane Garden Bay.”

The Premier also noted that road works have been carried out in the Prospect Reef-Slaney area and Duff’s Bottom.

Not much ‘bragadam’

Road paving, including to the airport, was also done on the eastern end of Tortola.

“That has made a tremendous difference for persons landing at the airport. They have a much smoother ride going into the east. You know, before it was a bit bumpy, and that was when they were talking about bragadam, bragadam.

“So we not hearing as much bragadam when we drive now these days,” Premier said, acknowledging Hon Rymer for his “leadership.”

Sea Cows Bay roads will be addressed 'very soon'

The Leader of Government Business noted; however, that road infrastructure repairs take time and acknowledged there are a lot of other areas that need to be addressed, including in Sea Cows Bay.

“Persons should continue to be patient because very soon you will actually see more work in that particular area, to improve the infrastructure there.”

Dr Wheatley said he was in West End prior to his appearance on Virgin Islands Voice and noticed there were some areas that “need some attention.”

“The people of West End can be assured that the Minister of Communications and Works is going to reach down there very soon,” Hon Wheatley stated.

The Premier said his government wants to have a standard when it comes to road infrastructure, including having more drainage, sidewalks and street lights.

Please don’t put no mouth on the roads. Be happy that they are improving the day to day travels that we have to endure.

None sense, after a whole year, why they start paving the "very good areas" in Sea Cows Bay first. It is unconscionable to have motorists and even pedestrians navigate on that very messy strip of road. Its been way toooooo loooong. Next thing you know, you will hear the machinery break down or they out of something. Common sense should tell these people working on the roads to repair the most critical areas FIRST. That is not rocket science. Besides they need to hurry up and fix those speed mountains in Sea Cows Bay as cars and even a laden flat bed got stuck on one. What a mess! We must do better, we can do better.

The roads are so much better now. Not so sure as far as drainage, sidewalks etc. but certainly a lot better and it feels really smoothe and nice to drive on. My car is confused and wondering what the hell is goin on!! Funny though that you will not get any expressions of gratitude from most in the public as they are very good at complaining and criticizing. Thanks to Hodge and the guys paving. ????????

You paved roads that didn’t need it. They don’t use primer with the asphalt so it won’t stick around long. The roads that you tore up 9 months ago have not been touched and there is no progress being made. A set of clowns running this road operations

So the public has spend several years ruining their vehicles on bragadam roads now Kye fix a little for the past 6 days and want credit. How insulting. Our vehicles are already destroyed and the $7.25 minimum wage cannot pay for them. All you judgement will be at the bragadam polls.

Bragadam every day from the speed bumps. Some of the speed bumps are fine but too many feel like if you are driving over a curb. The transition is too abrupt between the road and the speed bump in some instances.
I suggest that you make the bumps lower or longer along with a smoother transition.

Not ALL the roads are paved sir and there shouldn't be a headline like that until all the districts roads have been repaired. No time for back Patting. We are about to get some rain and the roads are being repaired with borrowed money. Let’s see how they fair in another 18 months

Please fix the road that runs through Belle Vue. It’s terrible! It’s been terrible. Drainage will be needed because there is a river in that area that continually flows onto the road and creates the crater lakes that are currently present.

Sea Cows Bay should have been a priority. Why is it on the back burner? From Elevator Hill to Philippe Bar is where needs to be paved urgently. They also need to fix hot mess by Havers where they patch that is uneven.
