We need a Governor who doesn't go away 'in midst of emancipation celebration'-Rev Turnbull
This was suggested by new co-chair of the Virgin Islands Heritage Month Committee and Senior Pastor of Cane Garden Bay Baptist Church, Pastor Dr Michael A. Turnbull, who could not contain his gratefulness that Acting Governor Archer Jr was the one in the Governor's Office during the Emancipation Festival.
Pastor Turnbull’s comments came during the Emancipation Service on Sunday, August 4, 2024, at the Sunday Morning Well.
Absent from the territory since July 20, 2024, Governor Pruce has missed his first Emancipation Festival as Governor of the Territory. In his absence, Deputy Governor David D. Archer Jr has been acting in the Office of Governor, a role he will hold until August 10, 2024, when Governor Pruce returns.
No UK-appointed Governor for Emancipation Festival
This is not the first time the [British] Virgin Islands has been without a Governor on home soil during Emancipation celebrations in recent years. Last year, 2023, then Governor John J. Rankin missed what would have been his last Emancipation Festival as Governor of the [British] Virgin Islands.
Celebrations are set to end on August 10, 2024.
Though not present, Governor Pruce did send best wishes in a message on July 30, 2024, to the people of the Territory ahead of Emancipation Day.
In his message, he paid tribute to the festival’s organisers and wished everyone a “joyful and safe celebration”.
Someone who 'looks like us'- Pastor Turnbull
Pastor Turnbull said he was grateful that a “son of the soil” is acting in the capacity of Governor.
“I don’t call it by chance that someone that looks like us, belongs to us, is here at this time and it’s special for us to be here,” Pastor Turnbull added.
He continued that 190 years ago the proclamation was read at various sites across the territory and this is the first time that someone who’s a native Virgin Islander “has the opportunity to recite one of the versions of the proclamation”.
Pastor Turnbull said it should not be taken for granted that Acting Governor Archer Jr is the one in the Governor’s Office during Emancipation celebrations.
“We have to continue celebrating our own people that look like us, that we can touch and who doesn't go away in the midst of our emancipation celebration,” Pastor Turnbull said.

If I'm not mistaken, the racial riots taking place in the Kingdom right now, is an incentive for any of those Blokes, to go back home!
What now, can he tell us about, " the good rule of law", when his own people right now, are actually killing "coloreds", in an effort to "save" the Kingdom?
Let us not take the need of the COI, casually; these people are here to destroy our country, in the needing for the "saving", of the Kingdom!
Mehson, leh he go!
He doesn't need to be here when most of government offices are on holiday or go-slow for Emancipation Week.
And, besides, it's not his culture. We shouldn't hold that against him.
Pastor David Turnbull, you are a grown man physically, but spiritually you are as immature as a child in the year 2024.
With the high percentage of negative and unethical distasteful behavior of the BVI Emancipation Celebration ongoing yearly, and getting worse, why do you chose to attack governor Daniel Pruce? Do you want him to fit in the mold of sexism as many of the BVI pastors and many others person currently doing, fake pastor?
There comes a point when you reach a certain age you become permanently unimpressed with a lot of sh**.
Dr. Michael. A. Turnbull
