‘We have not seen a penny' from $100m spent on VG- Shereen D. Flax-Charles
Speaking on the Talking Points programme on ZBVI 780 AM on Monday, September 21, 2026, Flax-Charles said residents of Virgin Gorda have yet to see tangible benefits from the reported $100 million being spent on the island.
“We have not seen a penny of the $100 million being spent on Virgin Gorda yet,” she said.
VG experiencing same challenges as sister islands
Flax-Charles said Virgin Gorda continues to experience challenges similar to those affecting Tortola, including water shortages, electricity disruptions and poor road conditions. She added that residents from Jost van Dyke and Anegada regularly contact her to report similar concerns.
“As far as we’re aware, we have water problems, just like Tortola,” Flax-Charles said. “We have problems with electricity, major challenges. Sometimes it has eased up a bit, but about a month ago and going back two months, we were…”
She also pointed to the condition of the roads, stating that “The roads are not good."
According to Flax-Charles, Virgin Gorda is currently facing challenges similar to those experienced by Tortola several months ago. While she acknowledged that considerable work has taken place on Tortola, she said the same level of attention must be extended to the other islands.
Work is being seen in VG
“We are now at the same stage, I think; Tortola was maybe about six months ago,” she said. “A lot of work has happened here, and we’re hoping that work will happen throughout the territory.”
Flax-Charles stressed that development must not be approached on an island-by-island basis. She said projects should be planned and carried out simultaneously across the Virgin Islands to ensure that residents in every community receive adequate services and infrastructure.
“That’s one of the reasons, I think, too, why it cannot be about Virgin Gorda alone,” she said. “It cannot be about Anegada alone. It cannot be about Tortola alone or Jost Van Dyke alone. It has to be collective.”
“Things need to be done simultaneously throughout the territory,” Flax-Charles added.

Since that time she got my admiration and respect...After that I heard she and Andrew always clashing and Andrew wanted her out....If.
