‘We had to discard some 685 vials of vaccines’– Hon Malone
“I want to acknowledge that we still had to discard some 685 vials of the vaccines in the Territory on account of them expiring on the 31st July; and with the present situation globally with more and more waves of different variants causing countries to once again close or implement more stringent travel protocols, vaccines supplies are even shorter, and procurement is even more difficult,” Hon Malone said.
At the time, he was delivering an update on the latest COVID-19 situation in the territory on Friday, August 6, 2021.
Nonetheless, Honourable Malone stated, “your Government remains steadfast and continues to do all that it can to ensure that the people of this Territory have every opportunity to get vaccinated. I am confident that we will get to the 80 per cent needed for optimal protection against COVID-19 and its variants and that we will once again safely re-open; but again, we cannot and will not without the participation and willingness of you, the people in doing your part.”
According to the latest update from Government on August 6, 2021, some 12,187 persons are fully vaccinated and 4, 403 are partially vaccinated.
Expired vaccines 'properly disposed of'
Meanwhile, the Minister for Health and Social Development said the Virgin Islands owes a debt of gratitude to the United Kingdom Government for providing the 3,040 doses of AstraZeneca received recently and are now being administered.
“The 685 vials were in fact properly disposed of in a careful and protocol manner, and we are now only administering only from the new batch of the 3,040 received,” he assured.
The UK had previously donated over 30,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine.

I'm not a VIP, but you can't blame the government for this.
Anyone who sees this question as problematic and doesn't look beyond to see the bigger picture of solidarity vs self-centredness and selfishness IN A GLOBAL PANDEMIC is part of the problem, honestly. Actions and attitudes have consequences. Solidarity over self-centredness any damn day.
Faith is an action word. Faith is active, not passive.
Many claim to be connected to God, but often refused to accept God help through others, that God is using to help save man from selfdestruction. I and others that know are appealing to our luck-and-believers that living among us to exercise in God's life power through whatever means, and whoever He is using to channel help to us.
The 685 vials of anti-covid virus vaccines exposed a very supersticous height of willful negligence, ignorance, arrogance, and wrong judgment of choice.
However, let continue on our mission to help save lives.
In the fight against the covid-19, one (1) ounce of good is 100% more helpful to us than one (1) billion ton of bad. Let us do good. God, our Creator will increase good to us, if we exercise living faith, daily. Faith without good works has no life sustaining.
Luck, chance, random speculations, groundless belief, false religious pratices, and others unproven methods are all useless against the covid-19 deadly effects.
Love remain life top medicine. Let us share live among ourselve, and others.
Satan isn't God.
This is my personal opinion educating the public more might have lessened the amount wasted.
It's not they could have ship them somewhere else. It goes beyond that the red tape as we say have to be taken into consideration. Also we don't know what agreement was made between the UK and our government. Maybe We can be held accountable if any thing happens. Lots of things are not as simple as we may assume.
You are a moron. Don’t play dumb. Even if you had a choice of other vaccines you wouldn’t take them. Tired of these #$%%^&^ while people continue to die on this island.
