BEEF ISLAND, VI – On the occasion of the official opening and dedication of the IAM Jet Centre at the Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport yesterday May 29, 2014 Group Managing Director Mr Paul A. Worrel made it clear that they were not about conquering.

“We didn’t come here to conquer anybody or anything,” he told reporters at the opening. The company said it invested, “Let’s call it a substantial hundreds of thousands of dollars.”

“All we are doing is bringing an internationally recognized new standard of operation for business aviation to Tortola and the BVI. We are rather unique,” said Mr Worrel

Mr Worrel was accompanied by one of the owners of IAM Jet Mrs Heather P. Wilshire, Group Manager for Operations Ms Donna Goddard and Mr Thomas Harper of the Business Development Unit among others for a simple cocktail reception and ribbon cutting ceremony.

When the facility was awarded to IAM Caribbean Ltd late last year as opposed to a local outfit, it was expressed that bread was being taken out of the mouth of locals. It was felt that IAM Caribbean Inc and local businesses Airport Services (BVI) Ltd and Platinum had a brokerage partnership and with the agreement of the BVIAA and IAM that partnership will now be broken.

Addressing this concern, Worrel said that for many years they have been sending their clients to private jet operators into the Beef Island Airport. “And in the absence of our own presence we have been using other airport operators to assist with that hence why we became so familiar and comfortable with Tortola.”

He said that now that they are here directly bringing a new and international standard of operation they have made a point, wherever they can, of utilizing additional services from the existing operators on the airport as opposed to bringing their own complete kit of equipment.

“For example out on the ramp the servicing of the aircraft and all of that we are happy to buy that from other vendors on the airport and work in conjunction with them,” Worrel said. He said that they have employed their full complement of six staff from the VI and as they expand they are keen of continuing the same trend.

“It’s only correct that they (tourists/visitors) should have an equally remarkable experience when they come into the airport that’s pretty much what this is about,” asserted Mr Worrel.

Worrel said that they took on the project of establishing the Jet Centre with the full knowledge that there are works afoot to expand the Airport facility in near to medium term future. “It is our hope that at such time as that comes to being that we might have the opportunity to having built on this to transition this into what we can really do…”

Yep! Just like Biwater. When Biwater came in it was because the locals weren't good enough. Now this is somehow different? LMAO!

NDP supporters are the biggest HYPOCRITES ever! Biwater was labeled as a sell-out, so..........what is this may I ask? NDP overstepped locals and allowed foreigners to offer this service. Why not give the locals a chance since they showed interest. As a matter of fact, was this tendered? 6 and half-a-dozen. This hypocritical behavior is amazing!

Looks mediocre! I believe the locals who showed interest could have done much better than that!

I dont understand we have firms in the BVI who outfitted trust company offices. You mean to tell me they could not find a blueprint to design an airport private lounge.

Tortola people are the hardest people the please. The Government did what they could AFFORD, if they built an extravagant facility, you would complain about how the Government is wasting money and probably find something else to bash about. Y'all complaining about 'expats' and 'outsiders' but if locals are doing nothing then someone must do something. Rather than sitting online cowardly sitting behind a screen complaining about the new 'outsider facility', publicly give suggestions and make active efforts to help the country. Locals and their negativity are to blame for the country's situation because you do nothing to help and then complain about progress that others have made. Forget the NDP and the 'outsiders' and focus on the betterment of your country and what you can do to help it.

I read these blogs every day and it makes me sick to hear you people complaining about how the politicians not for the locals. The locals are not for the locals. When a local tries to start a business who gives him more trouble, back biting, bad talking and trying to block or steal his idea before he can get it off the ground? The locals that’s who. When he does get his business going, who comes in expecting top quality service for rock bottom price and still don’t want to pay. We need to change that name from LOCALS to CRABS IN A BARREL.
Just incase you were wondering yes i am a bvislander born and raised on tortola and i do own a business here as well so i concider myself an expert on this subject matter.
