‘We are drunk on the eve of reconstruction’- Claude O. Skelton-Cline
This is according to clergyman and commentator Mr Claude O. Skelton-Cline, who has lamented; however, that the people of the [British] Virgin Islands seem incapable of reuniting and seizing the opportunity to be better.
He said unity is preached and talked about, “but we seem incapable of doing it, coming together in a way, in spite of our political stripes, in spite even of some of our ideologies, and finding the fundamental and foundational, basic tenets, of agreements and allowing that to be the starting point that will catapult us together as a people,” Mr Skelton-Cline stated on his show, Honestly Speaking, on ZBVI 780 AM on June 11, 2024.
Fighting for power
The commentator also suggested that the reuniting needs to start with the territory’s leaders, adding that when he was in the bank on Monday a man told him that the problem with all 13 legislators in the House of Assembly is “all of them want power, including the desk.”
“We got to stop hating on each other. We got to stop grabbing for the phantom that is power, and we have to figure out in private and then come public about how we are going to become one people.”
Mr Skelton-Cline referred to Dr G.E. Adams of Harvard University, who he said gave a message years ago about being drunk on the eve of reconstruction, a reference to Noah’s condition after the flood where he got drunk on wine at a time when God was about to almost “recreate” the earth.
Opportunity for rebirth being missed
“There was this opportunity for reconstruction, for reformation, for transformation, and what happens to the leader, what happens to the leadership? He is drunk on the eve of reconstruction.”
Mr Skelton-Cline said in the Virgin Islands, “I am afraid that we are not sober…and we are finding that we are drunk on the eve of reconstruction.”
He also referenced Africa, a 51-nation continent with 33 different currencies, many borders, and a multiplicity of passports, and that it will never be Africa as a whole until these "manufactured borders" collapse and become one country, with one currency, “the United States of Africa with one president, one army, one country.”
He said until the Virgin Islands as a people can answer the fundamental question of “Who we are and who we intend to be and putting our best foot and faces forward to become that, I’m afraid of what would happen.”

Did you know that admittance is the first step to recovery? In this case, admitting to the faults, wrongdoings, flaws, ignorance etc. I believe that if all the people admit to all the things BVI needs to change, then we can recover.
Each person that robs the country of something should face justice. Did you fulfill your contracts? No. Should you give the money back? Yes. Should anyone continue to listen to you? Maybe your family? I don't know. Best thing for you is to follow your faith. Be a good Christian!!!
