ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI—Customers of the Water and Sewerage Department (W&SD) in the Virgin Islands will soon enjoy the convenience of paying their bills online, with the Ministry of Communications and Works launching its online payment portal on Monday, January 27, 2025.

Minister for Communications and Works, Honourable Kye M. Rymer (R5), in a Government Information Service (GIS) press release on January 27, 2025, described the initiative as significant in modernising water and sewerage services, affirming that the portal would provide a secure, user-friendly, and efficient way for residents and businesses to manage utility payments.

No more long lines!

According to Hon Rymer, the new system eliminates the need for customers to stand in long queues or deal with complicated processes.

“With just a few clicks, customers will be able to access their accounts, view billing information, and make payments from the comfort of their homes or any location with internet access.”

The portal will be accessible to customers starting February 1, 2025, offering features, including round-the-clock access, payment options via email or the portal, account management tools, and advanced security measures to protect user information.

Customers urged to register for online service

Acting W&SD Director Mr Brian Davis urged customers to register for the service by visiting the department's portal and providing an email address, noting that the email address would also facilitate the delivery of bills, receipts, and important announcements.

Meanwhile, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Communications and Works, Ms Elvia Smith-Maduro, expressed gratitude to the stakeholders who contributed to the project, acknowledging the efforts of the Department of Information Technology, Banco Popular, Smarter Commerce, and the seventeen individuals who participated in pilot testing the system.

Ms Smith-Maduro—in the public missive—has since also reiterated the ministry’s dedication to ensuring essential utilities are accessible, reliable, and affordable for all residents and visitors.

Well well well, I can't believe it! Thank you, Mr. Rymer. They have finally joined the world of online payments. They must have heard all of the weeping and wailing having to find a parking spot, traverse up that hill, and then climb those steps, only to have 2 chairs for us to sit in after being out of breath when we reached the top. I really hope they set this online payment up well so we don't have to go back to the torture they have been putting us through.
