NOTTINGHAM ESTATE, Tortola, VI - What appears to have been a 'hit and run' has left an electricity pole broken in two and overhead live electric cables hanging over a road in Nottingham Estate this afternoon October 8, 2014.

A nearby resident told this news site that shortly after 3:00pm he heard an impact but did not bother to come out until approximately half hour later as he thought he heard traffic moving freely which suggested there was no accident.

He said that as he walked out his yard he noticed something strange about the overhead telephone and electrical cables and decided to investigate.

It was then he spotted the shattered pole with tightly pulled cables attached to it. "It's very dangerous, very dangerous right there now,” he said. Asked if he contacted the BVI Electricity Corporation (BVIEC) he said he did not have credit on his phone.

What appeared to be shards from shattered headlamps from a vehicle were also on the ground and there were also muddy skid marks which suggested that a vehicle might have been responsible for the shattered pole.

This news site did make contact with personnel from the BVIEC who said that they were going to respond immediately.

If the driver hit that pole hard enough to splintr it like that, that means the driver and the car must be pretty messed up. The driver only left the scene because they had something to hide such as no insurance, no license, drugs or alcohol or anything that would get them in trouble. I know if I had hit a pole, I was sitting there until the officials or an ambulance came and got me. Something is amiss here.

Credit to call VINO but not BVIEC. More important to sensationalise and cause trouble that getting fixed and enusuring safety. What goes through some people's minds?

A renovation of the driver moral compass is the most pressing issue here.
