Walwyn wants VIP Gov't to implement Human Rights Commission in VI
In a Facebook post on Monday, December 6, 2021, Walwyn stated that he has “long” opined that “there are many other things that are important to creating a good quality of life for citizens other than money,” such as building the necessary institutions in a country that can provide redress for citizens who believe that their rights have been abrogated is extremely important.
Mandatory Vaccinations a problem
This government has not made vaccinations compulsory for anyone in the territory but has said, that employers are free to implement whatever measures they feel is in the best interest of their business.
However, some business places have made vaccination compulsory for workers to keep their job.
Walwyn said currently in the territory, citizens are facing a very difficult time with the issue of mandatory vaccinations by their employers and their job security.
“Where do these citizens go for redress? The issue may be mandatory vaccinations today but some other issue tomorrow. Please completely put aside your views on the issue of vaccinations. My point goes beyond that. The Human Rights Commission Bill was brought to the House of Assembly by the Attorney General about three times over the last decade and it failed to even make it to the committee stage of the House. Persons facing human rights breaches, whether mandatory vaccinations or otherwise, would have been able to get assistance, guidance and support from the Human Rights Commission.”
NDP last addressed issue- Walwyn
Walwyn, who has been seeking to make himself relevant in the public through various social media posts that often subtly criticise the sitting government, said he conducted his own research and he found that the matter was last before the House of Assembly in October 2018 during the NDP’s tenure in office.
He then noted that the Virgin Islands Party (VIP) Government has not addressed the issue in the HoA.
“It has been three years now since then and nothing has happened. Listen to the contributions being made on this issue. Some of the points raised by some of our leaders were reasonable but I cannot say the same for others,” he said pointing to a clip he had attached to his post.
Walwyn then concluded his post by stating, “It is high time that the Human Rights Commission is put in place. It is important for investigating, promoting and protecting the human rights of all living within the Virgin Islands.”

and what is your point
since you know so much
where is the plane !!!
maybe you got some of sewage project money!!!
i do not have to defend anyone politically (run with that for now
keep the faith
calm down before you blow a fuse ?????
Then they could have used the human rights take on the matter of infringement of the law by those illegal aliens. LOL LOL LOL LOL
Under the quarantine regulation, if an individual knowingly cause the spread of a virus or a contagious disease to other persons, then that person can be persecuted for maliciously endangering the life of person or persons. Such offence is punishable by law. So while the Human Right is protecting a person liberty, under the International Law if a government is trying to protect the lives of its citizens as they should, they must be commended. For those persons who want to seek refuge under the Human Right Commission, they could be persecuted for their own negligence.
These silly actions by different governments arms will Cause infringement on your rights The Universial Declaration of Human Rights article 11 (1,2) states “ Everyone charged with a penal (punishable) offense has the right to be presumed innocent until proven guilty according to law in a public trial at which he has All the guarantees necessary for his defense.
“No one shall be held guilty of any penal offense on account of any act or omission which did not constitute a penal offense ,under national or international law, at the time when it was committed. Nor shall a heavier penalty be imposed than the one applicable at the time the Penal offense was committed” let me address the last part of (2) no judge can sentence an individual because of how he feels, putting a man away for 60 and seventy years behind bars has to be on the sentencing books. If it’s not , the man can walk free, by the argument of a Human Rights lawyer. Know your rights and stand up for it.
If this country implement a Human Rights Commission it would mean that they are subject to see that unfair and unjust activities and events do not harm the citizens and foreigners residing in this country and can put this country as one that held a high place for the rights of people, the value and protection they deserve.
