'Walwyn does not want me talk because he got a lot to hide'- Hugh E. Darley
Mr Darley was reacting to disparaging statements the Minister made about him on Monday January 25, 2016 during the Sixth Sitting of the First Session of the Third House of Assembly.
The Minister had said thus, “While we hear all the talk from a man who said he will save us and he is so concerned about the people and so on, a cherry without a nut...and I have a view you know...my view is a funny view because I know in certain countries in the Caribbean that man could not go down there running his mouth. And then he comes on our shores...I don’t know if he is a visitor or he has a work permit or what and he could come into our country and say the nastiest things and then sometimes some of our own people listen to the foolishness,” said the Minister, who has been criticised by members of the public and civil servants of being despotic.
While he did not address Hugh E. Darley by name it was clear that this is the person the Minister had been referring to. He went on to say that if the man has issues he needs to go to the court.
“If the Government of the Virgin Islands owes you money carry the Government to the court house. That is how you deal with those matters...but to be up and down on the radio talking nyah nyah nyah nyah all over the place and our people listen to the foolishness...it bothers me,” said Honourable Walwyn, in his usual antagonistic style of presentation in the House of Assembly.
Minister knows me well
Speaking to this news site yesterday March 28, 2016, Darley said in the early days even before he met Minister for Communications and Works Honourable Mark H. Vanterpool (R4), Minister Walwyn was part of the team negotiating the terms of the deals and agreements of the proposed project.
“I saw the Minister every day,” said Darley, saying that he was a regular customer at the Minister’s business establishment - the Mariner’s Inn. “He attended so many of the caucus meetings at the very beginning,” said Darley.
Tell him to pay me!
Mr Darley said if the Education and Culture Minister wants him to ‘shut up’ then he should pay up.
“[If he doesn’t want me talking then] tell him to pay me...he knows I created everything...he saw the whole process. He knows me very well. I am the one to introduce him to Disney to bring the Disney Institute for Education...these are things that I brought…,” said Darley.
He said he does not know why the Minister would speak badly of him when he was a frequent customer of his. “I had a very good rapport with him. He doesn’t want me talking but if the press asks me a question why not answer them? I have nothing to hide,” he said. “Maybe he does not want to talk to the press because he has got a lot to hide,” said Darley of Minister Walwyn.
Hopeful to meet the Premier
Darley said that through his new lawyers - his third law firm in the VI that he has hired - he hopes to set up a meeting with Premier Dr The Honourable D. Orlando Smith with the hope of bringing the issue to some kind of resolution.
“We are hoping to set up a meeting with Dr Smith because Dr Smith said in the media that he would be willing to meet with us,” said Darley.
In addition to alleging that the Government still owes him for the designs that they used, Darley alleged that there is no value for money in the project and that substandard building methods were employed. He said too he is not surprised about the recent structural damage suffered by the cruise pier as this happened because the materials used were less than the correct specification.
Mr Darley, however, is not the only one crying to be paid for services rendered to Government. For months musicians, contractors, and other local vendors went unpaid, even while Government keeps insisting it is not broke.

him makin less sense of Donald an Edmond an dat sayin somting
Most annoying person in the world goes to HUGH DARLEY !!!!!!!
The problem Mr. Darley is facing is that none of the lawyers here want to represent him because they are afraid of a government backlash. It's pathetic. The law firms who have turned him down should be ashamed of themselves. Everyone, be they right wrong or indifferent, has a right to legal council.
Obviously, there is a fundamental disagreement here. The only thing that Mr. Walwyn said (which I agree with) is that Mr. Darley certainly should take the government to court if he believes he is truly owed the monies. He should hire a lawyer from outside and just get it done. Assuming one side is guilty and another is on the side of right BEFORE the matter goes to court is somewhat useless. They can both make whatever claims they wish but the law has ways of making the truth come out.
Lawyers from the US. They are not afraid and they will get him the result he needs. Myron suggest take it to court because he knows the law firms here is afraid. Tortola is sinking in a sea of shame and corrupt. Everyone on the outside is reading and watching. Soon the tourist is going to walk away from this place.
nope.
'bout he, and he can't do him shitty squatt. He got protection that Darley will never get. The minute Darley opened his negative mouth, his stay should have been cancelled in this Territory and put on a boat out of here. You got to send message to these people who want to come in our country to muzzle us. This is just the beginning of these people who want to dangle the Willie Lynch letter in our faces. Darley's company was not accepted and he is acting like we owe him something. We don't owe him anything. Go and find honest work and you will get honest pay. The tables have turned on you, Darley, we are not begging for no crumbs from your table, plus your table has no crumbs that's why you down here begging, but not even the crumbs good enough for you and your likes. We know people just like you and you had planned to pull wool over our people's eyes. But we standing up and rising up and not afraid to tell you, Darley, when you trying to intimidate our leaders and disrespect them, you have disrespected the masses of scales-off-the eyes Virgin Islanders.
Go long, Bwoi Darley. Hush your poo-poo; we don't want to hear nothing from you, yuh Ole Woodslave-self.
