NECKER ISLAND, VI- Same-sex marriages may be illegal in the Virgin Islands; however, it has not stopped same-sex wedding ceremonies from taking place on Richard C.N. Branson’s private Necker Island.

According to the American monthly fashion and lifestyle magazine, Vogue, in a September 15, 2022, publication, a wedding ceremony between two men took place on Necker Island in May 2022.

The magazine, which published several photos of the wedding and events surrounding it on Necker Island, named the couple as Wesley Vultaggio and Michael McCarty of the United States of America.

Wedding reportedly took place in May

According to Vogue, the couple wanted an intimate destination wedding near the beach, and following plenty of research, they landed on Sir Richard Branson’s private islands Necker and Moskito in the [British] Virgin Islands.

It said the year prior, Wesley had booked a 40th birthday trip to Moskito Island, but because of COVID, had to cancel—so the location was already on the couple’s radar.

“We did a deep dive on islands around the world, from Brando Island in Tahiti to Capri in the Amalfi Coast, but were always pulled towards Necker,” Michael says. “We had a couple of conversations with them and the best dates they could offer us were November 2023, which was too far off for us. Three days later, they called and said they had a cancellation in May, and did we want it? Obviously, the answer was a resounding ‘Yes!’” Vogue quoted Michael McCarty as saying.

He also shared to Vogue that three containers’ worth of decor were shipped to the VI in order to pull off four days of events, including a Slim Aarons–inspired beach party, a jazz-club-meets-the-tropics night, “and of course, our incredible ceremony and after-party. In the end, Chris and his team—along with the incredible Necker and Moskito staff—did the impossible. We were blown away.”

First kiss as ‘husbands’

McCarty also said he and his partner had their two friends, Elena Scott and Todd Hawkins, officiate the ceremony.

“I recited my vows and promises to him, and there was not a dry eye in the house—even our friends who didn’t think it was possible for them to shed a tear were in sobs. After our vows, we exchanged our rings, were announced as Mr and Mr McCarty Vultaggio, and had our first kiss as husbands. As soon as our lips touched, a gospel choir burst into their rendition of ‘I Say a Little Prayer.’” After a few cheers, the couple processed out for pictures, while a gospel choir performed a rendition of Taylor Swift’s “Out of the Woods”—in Michael’s words, “the first Taylor Swift song I was able to get Wesley to love.”

‘Wedding of the century’

According to Vogue, the couple described their wedding as the “wedding of the century”.

It was also shared that local entertainers performed during the 4-day event and Mr Branson was also on island during that time.

Our newsroom reached out to the Attorney General, Hon Dawn J. Smith; Hon Sharie B. de Castro, who held the portfolio of Junior Minister of Tourism at the time; and Director of the BVI Tourist Board, Mr Clive McCoy for a comment; however, no response was received up to time of publication.

In 2019, a report by the UK House of Commons’ Foreign Affairs Committee advised the United Kingdom (UK) government to force the 14 British Overseas Territories (OTs) to legalise same-sex marriages.

But the UK government responded by saying it had no plans to do so, instead pledging to continue encouraging OTs to “recognise and protect same-sex relationships.”

Now which local pastor did the ceremony for this wedding? Also, if it illegal here where are they getting the marriage certificate from?

Now I do not support same-sex marriage, but God has the final say. With that said, I need to ask two questions:
Who wss the marriage celebrant and since it is illegal in the Territory, why was it allowed. Gramted Branson owns the island, but it is still in the BVI and our laws should be respected and upheld
      • controversial (22/09/2022, 09:51) Like (0) Dislike (0) Reply
The VI does not issue marriage licenses to same sex couples but it is not illegal to perform a wedding ceremony between same sex couples. So the same sex couple probably got their license in the US but is just having the ceremony in the VI.
Branson, a billionaire businessman understands this and is taking advantage. I estimate that with guests staying for at least 2-3 days, Branson is probably grossing $200,000-$300,000 from this single ceremony. Branson does not care about the gender of the couple, just the colour of the money and he knows he is not doing anything illegal.
As a community, the VI needs to decides where it stands on the issue of gay marriage licenses and gay marriage ceremonies, and the ceremonies will happen whether the VI issues licenses or not. Do we follow Branson and take the money, or do we continue down the path of ignoring it.
A point to note, the UK will impose gay marriage on the VI, at some point.

Let’s see if the Christian Counsel will do something about this? The UK is watching to see if we will truly fight for something in this place! You all feel a letter is enough to stop their agenda? Christians we better wake up!

If you zoom in on the photos to the link of the article, you would see it’s not a local and the wedding was vows only and not a marriage certificate issued in the BVI.

You got so-called people who claimed to follow Christ and love calling the Lord’s name in their mouth when it’s suits them BUT…

Busy on social media promoting this mess because it’s a money making opportunity that promotes the BVI and they don’t want to offend their homosexual friends/family.

Try go and read your Bible and build a REAL relationship with God.

      1 John 2:15-17
15 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life—is not from the Father but is from the world.

Mark 8:36 KJV: For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?

1 Timothy 5:22 KJV: Lay hands suddenly on no man, neither be partaker of other men's sins: keep thyself pure.

2 Timothy 3:1-5 King James Version (KJV)

This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.

God has nothing to do with the bible. It was written and continuously re-written by Kings and rich white men of England to control the masses. Try a more spiritual approach to God and maybe you hatred will fade from your heart, instead of following an interpretation of the KING JAMES Bible.

People brains too big and full of pride that they feel they know more than God.

You got some saying don’t highlight one sin over another just so they could rationalize away the sin they have no problem with when God’s Word CLEARLY says, “Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves, who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen. For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due.” Romans 1:20-32

This is not the first same sex ceremony that happened in this territory. A well known VG pastor officiated one a few years ago down Spring Bay beach. And just like this one a local band provided the entertainment.

Thing that make you say "Hmmmm?"

We will see what the government does about this. They probably did a service without getting a marriage certificate and got that back in the US. If that's the case, it was just a formal party not an actual marriage and does not break the law. But if a certificate was given bearing the Britsh Virgin Islands then we have a problem.

Can you please add some more to this article...because it should have included a statement from the Registrar General as to if her office was contact for a marriage licence?? Next...BVIslanders need to protect their country and way of life for foreigners like Richard Branson - first he is allegedly a member of this group who wants to destroy BVI financial services by having public registers now he is here having a same sex wedding on his property when he would or should know that same sex marriage is NOT legal in the BVI. Branson keep your UK values in the UK...we are the VIRGIN ISLANDS... BVI be careful who you make belongers...no matter how much money they have.

If you think your own nastiness represents the VI culture you should look at it from another pov.
Financial services literally helps criminals, terrorists and tax avoiders. Tax avoiders - like you pay NHI and SS, they supposed to pay a portion into their community to everyone has those kind of services if they need. We became the word leader in enabling all those law breakers and you say that’s our ‘VI culture’. The his does not square with the high church morals we love to show off.
Hating homosexuals is something that should define us a VIslanders? Bull. Indoctrination by the white man church is what defines us. We’re so indoctrinated we’re proud of how indoctrinated we are. Proud of how cruel we are because we are indoctrinated to think it’s GOOD to be cruel and inhuman to homosexuals, despite them existing here and everywhere, for ever.
Your certainty reminds me of slave owner justification, and Nazi holocaust justification. Your mindset is the same. You are them.

We must investigate how a community so absorbed by the injustice committed against their ancestors, so deeply Christian and godly at every possible chance they can show it, so kind, loving and tolerant of child abusers, incest, murderers and drug lords, can be so disgustingly prejudiced, inhuman and cruel about people who have naturally existed in every society since the dawn of homo sapiens. How? How do we expect decency to win over evil when you all don’t even stop to notice that crying for man who love man, and woman who love woman to be killed, beaten, tortured or have their lives destroyed some other way - just because you were raised to hate them. That’s all. Just like slave owners children were raised to think all black people are subhuman, so they never thought twice about beating slaves, and probably had verses on the Bible to explain why such cruelty was a good thing. You all church pretenders are going to shout back with lines from the same book about ‘abomination’ etc and you ignore 1000 other lines in the same book that aren’t convenient to you - like stoning adulterers, treating your slaves correctly and all the other stupidness that’s not relevant in our world today. Plus, you willfully ignore the clear distinction between marriage as a LEGAL status, with no involvement of religion at all - and marriage in a church by a pastor pretending to give God’s blessing. One is a CIVIL ceremony with no religion, and one is a church ceremony, which also qualifies as a legal marriage. It is easy to understand, unless you choose to ignore it.
So much desire to hate in this community. So much love and yet, cruel, heartless and inhuman bull**** pouring out the back end. We have no more moral high ground than the next man or woman. We are ALL gods children so stop pretending you know gods will just because your society indoctrinated you a certain way. Remember, the ones who God will judge may not be the ones you think. Love. Be kind, not evil.

Point of correction it did not naturally exist in our black people, not in our societies where we were taken from. It was used and a form of dehumanization on our forefather to belittle their ego as man. This shit pushing behavior was never our thing. if People would really see the origin of this behavior they would never approve of this foolishness. Also; the same 1 you repeating of who said to "Be kind, not evil" also continued to say HATE SIN; and shun it, HE calls this a sin and that it is. The year 6 B.C OR 2022 A.D has nothing to do with when God approves of wrong or wright. Wrong is wrong, and Right is right in His site. "A thousands years is like a day with God".

You see this is where your nonsense shows.
“It did not exist in our black people”.
Black peoples in Africa are not one make believe group of souls, they are millions of different people from thousands of different African cultures which have existed for thousands of years. You all claiming like Caribbean black people are from one African culture is stupid because it is not and never was true. In some societies it may have been forbidden, in others it was accepted. Across the continent and over 1000s of years there is so much variety in Africa, but you don’t want accept that. So, granted, probably some societies were hung up on it like you, but through time, across the world, it has always been there and you proclaiming it evil just reflects your closed mind, not any actual reality.

Vultaggio has a net worth in the billions. I am sure many of you have drank an Arizona drink at least once; he is one of the owners of that company. When you attain a certain level of wealth (which many of you never will, especially with the way you think), the rules do not apply because you realize that said rules are not real unless you are a part of the middle class or lower. After you have the wealth, you realize that the only things that truly matter in this life are your health and happiness. Let these men be.

Let's wait to see how the government and the governor handle this and their response. We putting so much pressure on our own people and others are getting away with these kind of unlawful practices. No wonder we have so much corruption in this little territory.

Y’all can come in here and quote scriptures for this story and want to talk about how sinful it is to be with a person of the same sex, but, you can’t see nothing wrong with being married to the opposite sex and blatantly cheating on your wives and husbands. GTFOH
