VISTS & St George's advance in secondary schools debating competition


The schools advanced following the first round of the debate competition on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, at the New Testament Church of God International Worship Centre’s Activity Hall in Baughers Bay.
In the first debate of the day, Cedar International School (proposition) and St George’s Secondary School (opposition) spoke on the Moot: Agricultural self-sufficiency is an unrealistic expectation for the Virgin Islands.
Miss Yasmine Sayed of the St George’s Secondary School was named Best Speaker.
Debate two was between Claudia Creque Educational Centre (proposition) and Virgin Islands School of Technical Studies (opposition) debating the Moot: Students with special educational needs should be required to take the same standardised tests as their peers.
The Best Speaker for Debate 2 was Miss Anaya Thomas of the Virgin Islands School of Technical Studies.
Debates continue on Feb. 26
The semi-final round of the 2025 Inter-Seconday School Debate Competition will be held on February 26, 2025.
Bregado Flax Educational Centre Secondary (proposition) will debate against the Elmore Stoutt High School on the Moot: Mental Health services should be mandated in all educational institutions.
In the second debate of the semi-final round, St George’s Secondary School and the Virgin Islands School of Technical Studies will debate the moot: Year-round tourism is both achievable and sustainable in the Virgin Islands.
