Mr Wright Jr defeated four other candidates, including main rival Stuart Michelson, when mid-term elections were held in the US on November 8, 2022.
The man with strong Virgin Islands’ roots will become the Tamarac Commissioner of District 2, which includes the neighborhoods of Hampton Hills, Woodlands, Plum Bay and Plum Harbor.
Tamarac, located in Broward County, is a diverse city of over 70,000 people outside of Miami.
Mr Wright Jr becomes one of 5 elected officials, similar to Senators in the US Virgin Islands (USVI), who make laws, and manage a quarter billion-dollar budget for the city.
He will be one of two new faces on the Commission.
Swearing in set for Nov 21
Commissioner-Elect Morey Wright Jr, whose mother is from the Virgin Islands, will be publicly sworn into office at 10:00 am on November 21, 2022.
Mr Morey Wright Jr, a Democrat, ran for election to the Florida House of Representatives to represent District 104 in June 2000.
He lost in the Democratic primary on August 18, 2020, to Robin Bartleman, who would go on to defeat her Republican counterpart in the general elections.
