ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Due to the vigilance of the Territory’s Civil Registry and Passport Office, a Dominican Republic man was arrested by police for a crime he committed in the United States Virgin Islands (USVI), according to the Office’s 2011 annual report.

The report disclosed that on June 27, 2011, a Dominican Republic (DR) national woman and her son submitted applications for two Emergency Travel Documents to go home. The mother was acting very suspicious while waiting for the travel documents to be processed, it further stated.

“She first indicated that there was a fire in her house and their passports were destroyed as a result of the fire. Later in the same conversation, she stated that her father had died and she needed to travel to Santo Domingo to prepare for his burial,” the 2011 report revealed, which was laid in the House of Assembly on July 3, 2012.

However, the son’s story was totally different.

He told the office that his mother was ill and needed to travel to DR for medical attention. When asked the purpose of their travel once again, he indicated that his mother was not feeling well as a result of her father’s death.

“Contact was made with the Immigration Surveillance Team at the Department to confirm their immigration status in the Virgin Islands (VI),” the report stated. “After investigating the matter, the Immigration authority reported that their department was on the look-out for both parties, as the US officials had informed them that the son had committed a crime in the USVI and was believed to have fled to the VI to avoid prosecution.”

The duo was arrested at the Passport Office and taken into custody by Police and Immigration officers.

Good job to the passport office. It seems that these illegal issues are occuring from people who want passport and other documents. They all need to be looked into and sniffed out of our country.
