Aasha, the last daughter of former legislator and Speaker of the VI’s House of Assembly Keith L. Flax and Trust Company CEO Rosemarie Flax; and Rodger, the son of Eric and Lentine Miller of Jamaica, sealed their union in what can be described as a very unique and peaceful ceremony in the presence of family, friends, a host of dignitaries and of course doctors on June 2, 2012.
Guests at the ceremony included Deputy Governor Mrs. Inez Archibald and Dr.J.S. Archibald, Acting Premier Hon. Dr. Kedrick Pickering and Mrs. Pickering, former Fifth District Representative Elvis J. Harrigan and Mrs. Harrigan, Cardiothoracic Surgeon at the University of the West Indies hospital, Dr. Joseph Blidgen, some 30 medical colleagues from the United States, Jamaica and Trinidad along with family and friends.
Rodger is a medical doctor, who specialises in Cardiothoracic surgery, while Aasha specialises in Radiology.
“It is a wonderful feeling, the day was so beautiful, to have things on paper and see it come to fruition was so beautiful,” said the new bride Mrs. Flax- Miller.
The ceremony dubbed “a three-strand cord ceremony” was a unique one where the couple used three cords, one representing the bride, one the groom, and the third representing God where the cords were intertwined to show the integrating of God into their union.
The setting for the ceremony reflected a theme where rather than having two aisles for guests - seating was done in a circle to reflect a circle of love around the pergola.
The officiating ministers were Methodist Reverend Dr. Wycherly Gumbs from St. Kitts, and Bishop John Cline of the New Life Baptist Church, both close friends of the family.
The bride was escorted down the aisle to the sounds of a classical rendition from United States Virgin Islands’ Chris Robbert, who played the violin, while Dr. Murphey Osbourne who also sang with the UWI singers, sang during the ceremony, as well as, at the signing of the register.
The best man was brother of the groom Bradley Miller, while Matrons of Honour were the bride's sisters Annjel Flax-Solomon and Alison Flax-Archer.
For the newlywed, family is very important to them and Aasha was very pleased that for her wedding, her 93-year old grandmother Eda Flax was in attendance.
“I was overwhelmed that she was able to make it. It made me so happy. She holds a special place in my heart,” the new bride said, noting that grandma Eda is her only grandparent alive.
As for choosing Little Dix Bay for their wedding, Aasha said the hotel holds memories for her family as her dad, Mr. Flax helped with the building of the hotel and it was also a close location for her grandmother.

Spencer Tailoring was chosen to outfit the groom and the groomsmen’s suits were made available from Virgin Islands bridal.
The videographer was John Black and photographer Amanda Baker of Virgin Fortress.
Meanwhile, Mistress of Ceremony at the gala wedding was Suzanne Lake-Rymer while the Master of Ceremony was brother-in-law of the bride David D. Archer.
