VIP developing policy backbone for a better VI – Hon Fahie
Mr Fahie, in his 2019 New Year’s message revealed that the VIP is engaging in both internal and external discussions on how to better the Territory for all generations through a number of key factors.
Policy Backbone
“As a matter of fact, a considerable amount of work and time have been invested in developing a policy backbone comprised of the key elements required for the successful redevelopment of the Virgin Islands and the continued advancement of its people,” Hon Fahie uttered.
These key elements, according to Mr Fahie includes Economic Diversification, Youth Success, Human Capital Development, Healthy Environment, Good Governance, Economic Planning and Research, Market Reform in addition to social development.
“We, the Virgin Islands Party, further believe that a country’s solid foundation is not comprised of roads, buildings and structures alone, but the true foundation of a country is its people,” the former Opposition Leader said. He says that with economic diversification, the party is looking to foster, “a vibrant economy that is stabilized by a broadened and diversified base.”
More Development
Under Human Capital Development, the VIP plans to engage in continued and varied investments in human capital, which according to them, will result in a competent pool of trained and qualified nationals positioned to benefit from and support the economy.
In terms of market reform, the party is looking to improve the performance of BVI Markets through the application of key trade, labour, regulatory, and economic reform initiatives.
Fahie says that as part of the VIP’s mandate, they will provide “A safe and comfortable BVI… a home that preserves our culture and our identity as Virgin Islanders.”
Only recently, the Hon D. Orlando Smith (AL) led National Democratic Party (NDP) had been accused of eroding the culture of the VI by new Independent At-Large Candidate, Rajah A. Smith.
Further, over its rule, the NDP has seen its key members embroiled in financial scandals that were labelled as both corrupt and lacking transparency by local policymakers.
