VINO pulls ‘misinterpreted’ cartoon on VI’s social & political issues
The Halloween themed cartoon published, today, November 3, 2021, has played on several burning issues in the territory including, the Commission of Inquiry, infidelity and domestic issues due to persons being out of work, mental health, and cost of living woes that continue to affect the territory and its citizens, while the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic and rages on.
Objective of cartoon
The cartoon was meant to show that while the VI struggles with its different issues, the CoI seemed insensitive to the territory’s plight and continued with its work, which many persons have suspected have motives not in the best interest of the Virgin Islands.
The UK had put off an inquiry into its own management of the pandemic and spending of COVID-19 funds, citing the pandemic and that much-needed resources would have to be diverted to the CoI instead of focusing on the pandemic.
Although the civil servants and elected officials were put under immense pressure to gather documents and appear before the CoI during the height of the pandemic, the CoI insensitively continued its work, despite telling the public it was sensitive to the situation.
Members of the public had also called for the CoI to be put on hold.
Rosemary Cindy Rosan-Jones is also depicted in the cartoon to show that she is allegedly riding the waves of disgruntlement in the territory to achieve her personal agenda.
Rosan-Jones, who on Monday, November 1, 2021, organised a protest at the House of Assembly held at the Save the Seed Energy Centre in Duffs Bottom, has publicly expressed her hate for the Virgin Islands Party Government and has said she will do all in her power to get them out of power.
Misinterpretation
Nevertheless, Rosan-Jones has personalised the issues in the VINO cartoon and made it entirely about her, although that was not the intention of the imagery in question.
Rosan-Jones then resorted to attack the Speaker of the House of Assembly Hon Julian Willock, who has repeatedly said in the past he has no editorial control over VINO’s publications.
“Again, the levels of our leaders and what they are affiliated to, is in the sewer. Our Speaker of the House, holds shares in VINO, and this is what he allows to come out of something he’s vested in. We bestowed an Honourable title on this man. Shame on Andrew Fahie and the VIP Administration. It is time to restore respect and pride to our highest office/house. The Speaker must be FIRED and the VIP removed from our HOA. They are a DISGRACE and a THREAT to all we hold dear,” Rosan-Jones said on her Facebook page today, November 3, 2021.
Cindy calls for respect & pride!
Ironically, even as Rosan-Jones has called for respect and pride in HoA, she has been in the habit of disrespecting and smearing the names of elected representatives on social media, calling the Premier and Minister of Finance Hon Andrew A. Fahie (R1) corrupt and the Deputy Premier and Education Minister Dr the Hon Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) as power-hungry, a disgrace and a disappointment.
She had even written on social media that she despised Dr Wheatley, a comment that drew a condemning response from respected commentator Dickson C. Igwe.
Additionally, Rosan-Jones has publicly disrespected local hero and businesswoman Patsy C. Lake, stating that Lake played no meaningful part in the Positive Action Movement (PAM) that successfully fought against the controversial Bates-Hill Agreement that would have seen Wickham’s Cay and lands in Anegada put into foreign hands and locals shut out.
Over the years, Rosan-Jones has been at the forefront of social conversations on issues and VINO has continually given the talk-show host a platform to amplify a majority of these concerns.
Another individual, who has a history of attacking VINO, Dr Michael A. Turnbull, the brother of Second District Representative and Member of the Opposition Hon Melvin M. Turnbull, also erroneously attributed the cartoon to a personal attack on Rosan-Jones.
Meanwhile, the former NDP member, Dr Turnbull, who has political aspirations and previously called for a boycott of VINO, made a similar call in his Facebook post today.
VINO pulls cartoon
Despite the clear misinterpretation of the cartoon, VINO has; however, made a decision to pull the cartoon on acknowledging that it indeed can be easily misinterpreted.
VINO has in the past held its grounds with controversial cartoons but said it has no intention of appearing to be attacking anyone personally for sharing their views or discouraging them from doing so in a democratic society and has decided to go the extra mile of taking down the cartoon.

It seems to bring to light all the issues and concerns in Cindy’s life that has been published in the media, online social networks, and spoken of on blogs.
All of which are ‘burning issues in the territory’ at present.
Set of evil hypocrites
