VINO ‘plays the tape’ in response to Stephen R. Daniels
ROAD TOWN, Tortola BVI- We smiled to ourselves when we noted on the pro-government online news site, BVI Platinum, that prominent Attorney at Law and Guyanese national Stephen R. Daniels claimed to have been misquoted by Virgin Islands News Online (VINO) in a story we carried on Monday March 23, 2015.
Firstly, VINO stands by its story headline ‘Statutory body argument is a cover’-Attorney Stephen R. Daniels’
The interview on tape!
While we are fully aware that we now live in a society where there is real fear of victimisation and persons, especially non-nationals, sometimes are forced to retract what they say out of legitimate fear, we ask that the public listen to the tape. While we know that Mr Daniels knows his rights, we do not place him in the category of being fearful of anyone.
- When Mr Daniels was called you will hear on the tape that the caller firstly identified himself as a reporter from Virgin Islands News Online.
- Secondly, he asked Mr Daniels if he was following and heard the proceeding in the House of Assembly in regards to Orion Law firm and the Attorney General’s opinion on the same matter.
Mr Daniels, according to the recorded information, said “yes” he heard what the Attorney General said and even went on to ask if it was published. Mr Daniels, in the interview, confirmed that he agrees with the Opposition when told that the Opposition’s position was that the BVI Health Services Authority is a Statutory Body therefore both the Minister for Education and the Speaker of the House needed permission to do business with the body.
VINO story accurate
In fact, his words were that indeed statutory agencies are quasi-government bodies and they obtain their funding from central government. In other words, they are government authorities.
Mr Daniels went on to give an example, using the Cruise Ship project, to further cement his point in agreeing with the Opposition’s position, explaining that statutory bodies are in fact government bodies.
Therefore, at no time in the interview did the reporter try to put words in Mr Daniels’ mouth, misquote him, or lead him on. In fact, at the end of the conversation there was an agreement to have Mr Daniels go back for a second listen to the Attorney General’s position on the Orion Law firm drama, giving him more time to expand on his position as was accurately quoted in our story.
Play the tape & see who is backtracking!
For him to be claiming now that he was surprised when it was brought to his attention that there were statements contained in an article published by the online site is somewhat disingenuous!
However, we will leave the public to make up their own minds after listening to the recorded interview and what was published by VINO!

Isn't credibility, trust, facts, etc. part of a lawyer's credentials?
If what VINO is saying is true then he can never be trusted.
Daniels needed to shut he mouth and stay out of BVI politics.
Why you got to be using other people screen names ???
I have read all the comments on here but I don't think that you all understand that this is a very serious matter. It seems that a lawyer might have been caught in a l*e his integrity and that of his profession in this country is at stake. For him to deny it and threaten legal action is serious some of these lawyers are something else.
Boy that blue newsite feel like $h1t LOL
Well sah! Think before you talk you just may be recorder unknowingly! Lol
The Devil's minions must be stoned and burnt at the steak. Can you tell I don't like him? Good.
