Vincy man who served time in prison in VI shot dead in Grenada
Several news outlets in Grenada and St Vincent have reported that Elvis Dexter Chance, 51, was shot and killed in a vehicle in Woburn, St George.
Chance, who was charged in a $4 million cocaine arrest in Grenada in August 2019, was acquitted in July 2022.
Guilty of importing cocaine in VI
Back on October 7, 2011, a then 39-year-old Chance, along with two other Vincentians, was found guilty of importing drugs into the Virgin Islands (VI) and he [Chance] was sentenced in July 2012.
The trial came about after, on January 23, 2008, the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force seized and searched a chartered catamaran at Hodges Creek with some 61 kilos of cocaine on board. The cocaine is said to have had a street value of $1 million US dollars.
Local Police alleged that the shipment of cocaine came from St Vincent and that Chance, and the two other Vincentians were involved in the shipment of the drugs.
Chance and his two colleagues were initially facing two other charges: conspiracy to import a controlled drug and unlawful possession of cocaine. However, on March 21, 2011, those charges were dismissed by Magistrate Stephens due to arguments put forward by the men’s lawyers indicating that the complaints were not laid against the men in a timely fashion.
