VICSA launches advocacy programme for Public Officers

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- In an effort to bring about change that will make the public service a better place the Virgin Islands Civil Service Association (VICSA) has said it will launch an advocacy programme for public officers.

According to a press release from VICSA, today, Wednesday, June 1, 2022, VICSA will launch its first-ever advocacy programme that is designed to reach current and potential members throughout the public service with the purpose of reinforcing values while explaining the benefits of being a member.

The initiative will also call attention to issues or problems, identify solutions, and coordinate efforts.

President of the VICSA Ms Sasha D.A. Flax said, “This advocacy programme gives us an opportunity as liaisons to be a listening ear or a voice for the members of the public service.”

“It is our desire to be available and willing to assist members and potential members with information ranging from benefits and rewards, conflict resolution, or any professional difficulties they may be facing,” she further stated.

Other members of the current executive body will be on standby to assist with any question that may arise from out of the public service.

Advocates

The Advocates by Ministries are as follow: Ms Sasha D.A. Flax - Ministry of Natural Resources and Labour and Ministry of Health and Social Development; Mr Joshua Edwards - Ministry of Education, Culture, Youth Affairs and Sports; Mr Linton V. Leonard - Ministry of Communication and Works; Ms Sharona Pickering- Premier’s Office and Ministry of Finance; and Mrs Kishann Braithwaite - Governor’s Group/ Deputy Governor's Office.

The areas of focus are to include Human Resources Matters, Legal Representation, Professional Development Opportunities, Career Blueprints, and more.

    These things seem so opportunistic...What were the process to select the advocate executives? Where there an application or nomination process,? Did a civil servants meeting were convened and ideas thrown around...? I hope this is not a hand pick situation by a few people who think they know all the answers...The idea, the initiative is a good one. I'm just concern with the process

    They need to go public works and do a complete check around when I went there I saw someone as if they living on the compound they seems as if they wash there too is there a Director there??? Someone in the back wants to know
