NEW YORK, NY - Virign Islands (VI) Premier Dr. Hon. Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) has signed the Virgin Islands’ second United Nations (UN) Country Implementation Plan (CIP) that expands programming and technical assistance to the Territory from UN agencies serving the Caribbean region.

This is according to the Government in a June 13, 2024, press release where among other things, the CIP will help to accelerate achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and implementation of the BVI National Sustainable Development Plan.

The priority areas identified include: (I.) building a conducive business environment and investment climate; (ii.) accelerate the economic transition; iii. support the use of date for policy development and leave no one behind; (iv.) universal, quality and shock responsive social protection and services; (v.) expand and strengthen adaptive capacity; (vi.) strengthen the policy framework for governance, security and social cohesion; and (vii.) incorporate the SDGs into national planning to drive implementation.

CIP developed based on BVI-UN Sustainable Development Forum

Government says the updated CIP was developed based on the BVI-UN Sustainable Development Forum held on Tortola in June 2023, where the UN system consulted the Government of the British Virgin Islands on the support needed to help advance the sustainable development of the islands.

Speaking on the importance of signing the BVI’s second UN CIP, Premier Wheatley added, “The new CIP deepens our cooperation with the UN system on programming and technical assistance for the sustainable development of the BVI. The wider range of technical assistance and support available will assist the government with policy development and implementation in the identified priority areas. My Administration will remain engaged with the UN as a primary development partner.”

The outgoing Resident Coordinator for Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean Mr. Didier Trebucq signed the CIP on behalf of the UN system.

Virgin Islands Premier Wheatley was joined by Minister for Health and Social Development Hon. Vincent O. Wheatley (R9), Special Envoy Mr. E. Benito Wheatley, IAS Deputy Director Ms. Dwynel Davis and Environment Officer Ms. Angela Burnett-Penn.

The CIP plan been signed our Premier is positive, but at the same falls short of our many priorities need in the short and medium term, not to mention at this time long time to come.

Below is a list of priority needs in my honest opinion:

    1. Better management of our over-streach or meager finance in hand.

    2. Focusing on the current needs of our citizens rather focusing on person wants and selfish ambition of our political leader and cronies.

    3. Law and order must be respected and supported by all our citizens when no credible proof is identified against corrective actions against the RVIPF

    4. Road work by PWD needs urgent attention.
I had a conversation with a retired PWD worker on our roadway condition. He explained to me that years ago a certain measure or amount of cement was added to the gravel and oil mixture to insure stiffer, firmer and longer lasting road, but if this was done, many of the road workers will have little to do. This is the primary reason when holes in the road are filled and soon after heavy rain falls the pot-holes or better said well- holes in our roads get even bigger: See the 7th district roads for proof of this.

    5. The Market in Road town recently incomplete due to vision less political leadership. If it rain heavy, no business can be done.

    6. Since Hurricane Irma, September 6th 2017, there remain plenty of badly damaged vehicle all over the BVI still in place, some hidden behind grown up trees.

    7. Too much money are been wasted on unnecessary travel overseas with no profitable returns.

    8. Too high salaries are paid to family members and political affiliation friends.

    8. Too much of our finances are spent on renting office spaces while government owned buildings been vacated and Left unrepaired.

    9. Two of our most important pieces of government owned land, the newly Music Fest are seaward of the unoccupied administration building.

    10. The piece of land that was prepaid by the NDP ran government to helicopter sick patient from Virgin Gorda for emergency medical treatment.

    11. More road traffic police presence needed, now.

The full entementation of the CiO 48 recommendation do no later than August 31, 2024

    12. Better governance for all the citizen of the BVI: natives, belongers and residents, including respect all our tourist that visit our country daily.

The above is not meant to say that somethings done by our government leaders are not positive, but not enough are. Too many imbalance still exist.

Just crap, this man say he is a PhD, but he doesn't realize it's infantillism, the UN and all white entity assume they have the superior logics and blacks can't help themselves or manage anything , so it's a child been told what to do, in south Africa now, the white apartheid has predicted that in 25 years the black people would hand the country back to them and a stooge called ramaphosa did, was never a leader, always seeking white supervision like Wheatley the premiere is doing, time for us to determine our destiny, those party money could have built some factory that these young people can benifit from, do a bit of socialism and build a facility for hauling those tourist boat on land and repair like the Bahamas, white people do all for there people to be the master and not the subject.
