ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The United Kingdom (UK), which has been stalling the establishment of the medical marijuana industry in the Virgin Islands (VI), even while the colonial power benefits from the same industry, has agreed to talks with the VI on the way forward. This is according to Premier and Minister of Finance, Hon Andrew A. Fahie (R1), who was recently in the UK for a Joint Ministerial Council (JMC) meeting.

"I am pleased to report that coming out of our JMC meetings, the UK and BVI have agreed to move forward with discussions on advancing medical marijuana. In fact, follow-up meetings have already begun. I look forward to updating you in due course on the progress," Hon Fahie said in an update on November 26, 2021.

The VI 'Medicinal Cannabis Licensing Act, 2020' was passed with amendments on June 30, 2020, in the Virgin Islands House of Assembly (HoA), however, the bill is yet to become law until it is assented to by the Governor of the Virgin Islands (VI).

Hon Fahie said, coming out of the Joint Ministerial Council, he made it clear that unfortunately the region is a transit point for illegal contraband as organised crime seeks to exploit the vulnerabilities of so much open maritime space.

Gov't will continue support of police & Governor

"Your Government continues to be supportive of the efforts of the Governor and Police Commissioner to strengthen the police force and improve security."

He said 2021 has brought a number of successes in foiling major drug runs as well as addressing compromised officers who have hurt the police’s integrity and hampered the force’s ability to fully function.

"I reiterated our commitment to the National Security Council and pride in setting up the Joint Taskforce that was formed in the height of the COVID-19 pandemic to protect our sea borders.

"I believe that an integrated approach to national security is the best way to address the Virgin Islands security challenges," Hon Fahie further said.

      1) Did somebody tell you that something is wrong with agriculture?

      2) Do you think we produce so much agriculture that we can export some?

      3) Don't you think having an export product would be good for the country?

The VI is self-governing, albeit partially, but the UK still has the final say on legislation passed by the people’s duly elected HOA. In the UK, Royal assent is required for a bill to be become law. However, that requirement is in essence now a formality. The last time a bill passed by Parliament didn’t receive Royal assent was in 1708 under the reign of Queen Anne, ie, the Scottish Militia Bill. In the VI for a bill to become law, the Governor has to assent to it. Assent is a formality in the UK but in the VI it is weaponized to restrict bills that some may not prefer. What is good for the goose is good for the gander. I’m neutral on the medical marijuana bill, for that decision is up to VI voters through their elected members.

Just as long as the government is benefiting from anything that is deemed illegal, it alright for them to indulge.

In a modern world we need to advance into truth by common sense legalization and acknowledging the artificially created harm of prohibition which is separate from cannabis itself.

If mangoes were illegal for the original reason that minorities love mangoes and lies that educated people will beat their wives after eating mangoes.... the same situation would play out where people are making a living smuggling in exotic mangoes.

The price would be its weight in gold. People would fight over mangoes, mango money and mango juice would be served behind closed doors.

Some people will believe the mango came from the devil as their told by the media & government, having never had a mango themselves. They’ll ostracize family members who are known to drink mango juice.

It may sound far fetched as mango is sweet and has no known negative consequences other than diabetes and diarrhea.

Take a moment to look around with all the people smoking weed what negative has come solely from its use and not from it’s prohibition?

Cannabis is a flower mangoes are fruit.

The cry for legalization has always been centered on its harmlessness. no one dies from cannabis consumption. unlike alcohol.

I really wonder how educated society can be this mentally led astray when the research is available. Propaganda is like a stain that’s hard to wash away.

Making cannabis illegal was justified by the public reasoning that it will make you hit your wife and sexually assault her and Mexicans & blacks were using it. literally. go on YouTube to see the original propaganda.

If you do your own research on mangoes and see it’s said to be attractive to humans and animals, not harmful or physically addictive, healthy in fact, then why not try it and experience what god made that is said to be medicinal.

All “drugs” and “highs” are not the same. Processed sugar is a white powdery drug eat enough you will be “high”. Life is not black and white. Honest education is key.

Cannabis isn’t the only non addictive plant that can be consumed for medicinal & spiritual use.

Other plants the native Americans for example were familiar with and regarded highly are more visionary spiritual & therapeutic. Education should tell us that.

The concept of holy plants has been eradicated from our sphere of knowledge while it is integrated into many older societies.

Many heads of government sold their people out with the war on drugs which was based on lies. A complete failure, a forever war some people earnestly want to continue.

In fact I think we would call god the devil in our current state.

Something something Burning Bush. They’d have locked Moses up for sure.
