Hon Wheatley reiterated statements made by Premier and Minister of Finance, Hon Andrew A. Fahie (R1) the Government and people of the VI stand ready to assist 'our brothers and sisters' in whichever way possible.

“Mr. Speaker the relationship between the BVI and St. Vincent and the Grenadines has deep roots and covers many years…  it is a cherished relationship."

"Many persons living in the BVI are connected, either directly or indirectly with people in St. Vincent and the Grenadines and have expressed interest in hosting them here in the BVI,” Hon Wheatley disclosed.

According to the Minister, the VI Government continues to formulate plans on how to assist in various ways.  Hon Wheatley also noted that Premier Fahie is in constant contact with St. Vincent Prime Minister, Mr Ralph E. Gonsalves and other Caribbean leaders on the ongoing relief efforts.

Get rid of them first. VI does not monitor the temps coming in from places...put up their picturs, root them out and only then we should be filling up the tank that has be come septic.

This is the 1st bad comment for such an article.
Instead, some brainstorming should have offered; in reference to how we can embrace the Vincentians while SIMULTANEOUSLY keeping our people SAFE.

YALL FORGET??

CARICOM has a population of 18 million people, they should be booming if they each stop being so selfish. CARICOM has more than 175,000 square miles of land, we have 59 square miles. CARICOM full member countries are the ones that should host the Vincies.

It is very sad what’s happening in st Vincent but the Hon. Is right.. we are to be each other’s brother and sister and help when we can.. is it scary to have an influx of persons into our country in view of COVID-19 yes it’s is but I want to believe that our government will put proper measures in place with the Help of God to protect us all and not let anyone slip through the crack.. and also that as they’ve said it’s only temporary.. our country is already too small for the populace it has now..it’s the machete-living vincy men that gives them a bad name and their behaviors but not all are the same. Yes we have our grievances with expats in our country but they need our help and they’ve helped us in the past so why not extend a hand of gratitude and Trust God that all will be well and we love as He asks us to. (Who knows this could be a test of our faith as a people. God Have been Faithful to us and when we do good for others, we receive Blessings from God- food for thought) .. so instead of being afraid, let us all pray for God’s Continued Protection and Wisdom and Guidance as we try to help them..

The problem is you cannot trust the protocols in place fro visitors and nations coming in. They are handing out gadgets that are nonfunctional. Some people will take opportunity of that because they cannot be tracked. (Speaking from experience). I hope the port is doing different to the airport because it’s a joke what is happening with those tracking devices. Nobody to check them before handing them to people?

You all tell me that Ralph did not see this coming and made no preparations for his people and country. This was not a hurricane. Leadership matters. With this said as a leader I would have had shelters and storage with emergency supplies. The outcome was inevitable. You Ralph failed your people and now they want to play guilt trip on the BVI because ST
VINCENT Government helped out in 2017. So whenever there are crises around the Caribbean region the BVI is obligated to help because they helped us?

Government is asking those out of work to return home and bring more. (Why not help those). The people in st Vincent is better off now than those out because the world is sending help. Who will feed and house those coming? What sense does that make. Government raising fees on the residents because they need money to keep people employed and they are pretending they can help others.

If you want to help send 1000 tents and a container of water until things settle.

I’m into helping people but I have to help myself first and I can see the BVI is in no position to take in anyone. What are they going to do when there is no work, are they coming to go sit on the road making the place look like alms house, that’s not helping. I also think the families that will be hosting these people is not in a position to feed and care for them so crime is going to start, I’m sure the landlords going to raise rent. The best thing to do is send whatever we can to them because trust me putting more on plenty is going to be a disaster. Some of them can’t even find food for themselves much more for bringing in more people. The place is in a wreck already bringing more unemployed people is going to bring this place down to the dogs.

We cannot continue to take in everyone. We as a Country have to take care and look out for our own first. There are other Caribbean Countries that can take them. Will there be a back ground check on the ones that they are letting in? Will there be jobs waiting for them? Will there be housing waiting for them? There are many other ways that the BVI can assist. Most of our water supply from Tortola and Virgin Gorda that we have and is needed is being shipped out, water that we are paying for and sometimes turned off days. I agree, we need a all female cabinet who can show these MUMUS what common sense is.

I TRULY BELIEVE THAT THE ONLY WAY TO PROVE LOVE TO OTHERS IS BY ACTIVE LOVE TO THEM, ESPECIALLY IN TIMES OF NEED. I AGREE THAT WE SHOULD HELP THE HURTING PEOPLE OF ST. VINCENT MUCH AS WE ARE ABLE TO, NOT AS MUCH AS SOME MAY WANT US TO. HOWEVER, OUR PRESENT GOVT. SHOULD KEEP ITS WORD TO US THAT THEY WILL BE RETURN HOME TO ST. VINCENT AS SOON AS POSIBLE. Use common sense , with another influx of unemployment in the country how would it help the people of st Vincent , wouldn’t it be better sending things to them, how many people will the country be able to help? Please be reminded that when people came after Irma they were paid for their jobs that they were doing, why help and then throw it in people faces? People came in and are still in filling their pockets so stop it about ungrateful.

No body wants to go back home they find all excuses and tell so much lies even to officials. This is a true statement the people that came from our sister islands years before are not the same today. Their mentality is far different. Bring the elderly and help those underaged children. Peter pay for Paul while we iron out our present problem here.

I dont think this is a wise move to make now remember you are asking people who live here of years to leave because there is no jobs so how are you going to manage those who are coming i think the best thing is to donate what you can keep in mind both locals and non locals are already facing hard times cant meet bills food price is murder it self dont talk about rent put suggles upon hard ship.will not help it will only create more social issues on what is here already there dont come for me i am just seeing things deeper than others would want to look if things was different i would of support it Mr Mister you need to rethink this or you will have problems you cannont forsee .
