VI to receive 2000 AstraZeneca vaccines doses from Dominica
This comes through an arrangement with the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS), where they negotiated on behalf of the VI, for the vaccines to be received in the territory over the weekend.
The announcement of the vaccine grant was made by Minister for Health and Social Development, Hon Carvin Malone (AL) on yesterday, March 5, 2021, and comes as the arrival of the second batch of UK sponsored AstraZeneca jabs have been delayed from March 3 to March 17, 2021.
Vaccine doses welcomed - VI Gov't
Given the timely donation, the VI government called the vaccine grant from Dominica ‘good news’ as the territory will now be able to continue smoothly with its public vaccination programme.
Hon Malone in a statement said coupled with the vaccine arrivals from the UK, “the BVI vaccine rollout will now be in a better position to continue to vaccinate the BVI Public, thereby allowing our economy to continue to move from strength to strength.”
Hon Malone further expressed gratitude on behalf of the people of the territory to the Government of Dominica, the OECS Member States, the Director-General and all the members of the OECS Commission for the timely grant.
