ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The 2025 CARILEC Lineworkers Rodeo, Symposium, and Field Safety Training will be held in the Virgin Islands from April 25 to 27, 2025.

This is the first time the BVI Electricity Company (BVIEC) has been selected to host the event that brings together skilled lineworkers from CARILEC’s 33 member utilities across the Caribbean.

“The annual CARILEC Lineworkers Rodeo, Symposium, and Field Safety Training highlights the expertise and safe working practices of lineworkers, who play a critical role in ensuring reliable electricity transmission to homes, businesses, and communities,” said a press release from the BVIEC on Friday, March 7, 2025.

The event is designed to empower lineworkers by combining training sessions and competitive activities emphasising teamwork, safe work practices, and regional collaboration.

VI looking for 3rd consecutive Lineworkers Rodeo win

This year’s Lineworkers Rodeo will follow Lineworker Appreciation Day, observed on April 18, 2025. This day honours the men and women who often work in hazardous conditions to keep the power systems running.

“Their pursuit of a historic “three-peat” adds an extra layer of anticipation to what is already a must-see event,” the BVIEC said.

In line with CARILEC’s mission, the Rodeo and its complementary Lineworkers Certification program also help prepare participants for deployment under CARILEC’s Disaster Assistance Programme, where they support Caribbean territories impacted by natural disasters.

Ms Melony C. James, Occupational Health and Safety Manager encouraged the BVI public to come out and support the BVIEC team as they compete in the Lineworkers Rodeo.

“Your presence will be a powerful show of support for the hardworking lineworkers who play a critical role in keeping our communities powered and safe. The energy and encouragement of the crowd can make all the difference as they demonstrate their skills, speed and teamwork in this thrilling competition,” James stated.

BVIEC General Manager Dr Neil M. Smith said, “We are extremely proud to welcome our partner CARILEC and its participating member utilities to the British Virgin Islands.”

He added hosting the event is not only historic for the Virgin Islands but a testament to their commitment to excellence in the energy sector.

“Our lineworkers are the backbone of our power infrastructure, and this event underscores the importance of safety and skill development for all who work to keep the lights on across the region,” he added.

Ms James reemphasized the importance of safety, stating it remains the company’s top priority.

“We are dedicated to fostering a culture of continuous learning and collaboration among our team members and those across the Caribbean,” she stated.
