ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Douglas Wheatley, host of the Speak out BVI talk show, said the type of society, that exists in the territory today, is a fractured one; he added that there is a need for residents to look back and examine how the country has moved forward.

Doug Wheatley gave these remarks while on Speak out BVI, aired last evening September 18, 2012, on a local radio station.

He stated that the type of society that exists today seems fractured in many ways, where the people don’t seem to have the love that was displayed in years gone by.

He added “what we have to do, we have to go back to our roots; we have to go back to those ways that we lived before. I know people will say it’s difficult to go back, but it is our survival that is at stake.”

Mr. Wheatley said that those qualities that were exhibited were based on Godly principles and we need to get closer to them in order  to have a better society and not a society that is so fractured, “and we need desperately to do that.”

“There is a need for looking back to see where the society stood, years ago and how the qualities, character traits were passed down to generations.”

Wheatley concluded that sometimes people say that you can’t define a Virgin Islander, but I think if we can go back, to see how we have moved forward and what values were passed on, I think we would be able to define who a Virgin Islander is.

The only way is to have a strict approach to the immigration and labour situation in this Territory. VIslanders must also stop being the ones trying to bend and breaks these same laws cause we are not making it any better for us or future generations.

Put on the Brakes. you said it right, but there is more to this. We are broken in spirit, we need a new and positive spirit .

Think about it my friend! At what time did we really had a society? We as a people in the BVI survived under the system that was in place, and tried our best to fit-in. Now that it is all out in the open; We can form our own society, but the mis-education of many will make it difficult. Work on it!
