VI Red Cross embarks on ‘Blood Drive’
According to Spokeswoman, Ms Millie Jaspert—wife of the serving Governor, Augustus J. U Jaspert aka 'Gus'—“we have put a display up in the centre of Roadtown and we will have volunteers out in different places across the Territory this week asking people to sign up for the BVI Blood Donor Register.”
She noted that the 'Register' will remain open beyond this drive and we will continue to encourage people to sign up for the rest of the year.
“The Register means that when blood is needed, people who have offered to be blood donors and have the relevant blood type can be contacted, rather than the current situation where a donor has to urgently be found and messages go out on social media etc.”
According to Ms Jaspert, the outreach with be complemented by public service announcements on the radio, roadside displays and posters up around the Territory, to help everyone understand the value of giving blood.
Volunteers will also be in placed strategically in public places to register people’s details and also anyone can sign up any time by going to www.redcross.vg/giveblood
Individuals are asked to share their contact details and blood type. Then, when their blood is needed by someone in the territory, individuals will be contacted and asked to give blood.
