VI records 9th COVID-19 case; Virus was imported
In a public address broadcasted tonight on television, radio and via social media, the Minister said the imported case was confirmed on Friday, July 31, 2020.
Hon Malone said the individual exhibited only mild symptoms of the virus and has been placed into quarantine at a Government contracted facility.
JvD linked case in SVG returns negative test result
Meanwhile, a previously recorded case recorded in St Vincent and the Grenadines and linked to the island of Jost van Dyke has now been confirmed as negative, the Minister said.
It was previously announced that the individual had tested positive for the virus after flying from the Virgin Islands to St Vincent, leading to a complete lockdown of Jost van Dyke and mass testing of residents on the island.
Hon Malone said the government remains extremely pleased that the SVG linked case returned negative and that the government took steps to mitigate any spread of the virus should that test had been confirmed as a positive case.
He said the positive case, as announced today, is a timely reminder that the Territory is not out of the woods as yet regarding COVID-19 and its fight against the pandemic.
The last confirmed coronavirus case in the Territory was recorded on May 14, 2020, Hon Malone said.

I am beginning to believe that it is children doing this. We are one people.
smh
What does island people have to do with anything here ?
will to your benefactor, the VI,only deepens your curse.
These VI and its people are blessed. Take note and refrain from throwing curses that continues to backfire on you and your homies.
I have a question for you. St. Vincent was not hiding where the young lady came from who they said had tested positive coming from the BVI (*Big Lie* )
How is it that you have not revealed to the people of the BVI where this person came from into the BVI?
St, Vincent health officials wasted no time spreading false information. That young lady was never sick, never had the virus. In fact, they sent her home with her mom and sister. She is well as well can be and is out and about in SV.
Why can't you, Mr. Minister, say from where this new case was impored?
As per Dr. Anthony Fauci- to prevent COVID
1. Wear our masks consistently
2. Social distance
3. Avoid closed areas like bars etc
4. Keep away from crowds or large gatherings
5.. Wash your hands
You all need to take the blinders off and realize we both need each other..
@Locals: look around, especially in our Health system in our hospital and community clinics.. our nurses and doctors are mainly Locals; Nope; Expats..the Specialist Doctors in hosp are mainly Expats.. we are Blessed to have Specialists like Dr. Bovell, Nehemiah, Batacharya, oyetunji to Name a few and there’s more..these people (Expats) care for us and our families).. when we go to ER 9/10 it’s an Expat. Nurse or Doctor we meet. If we don’t want this, then we educate ourselves in these roles so that our Immigration & Labor Dept.. don’t approve their work permits.. and yes I admit some expats fill roles that Locals can fill which is wrong and we have a right to be angry but again who gives them permission to have these jobs?..We needed some of them after Irma and who knows we may need them again this way or another way..
@Expats:.you are just as bad as locals spewing out the same poison against us and you need us as well for the American dollar..(once I gave someone a ride and that person “in front” of me calling down my people; I had to ask them if they were crazy and if it wasn’t a local was giving them a ride). you make enough money to survive here and still send home to care for your families and build homes in your country, and also at times Some of you do take advantage of our country by taking advantages that are NOT afforded to you Being employed that locals don’t get.. at times the way some of you all behave and treat us though it’s not right on either side We all bring this Disdain against ourselves..So again we all are benefitting from each other in one way or the other.. we all (locals and expats alike) just need to Stop, Do Right all around and Show more love to each other and live better.. for we all claim to know, Love and serve God and God is Love and we that don’t love doesn’t know God..the thing that gets me to is that we are all one race of people.. don’t we have already have enough racism/xenophobia against our race?..
WHAT About local stepping on island people neck you have nothing to say right .every body phone don't rings the same time. so what they work for it while you are collecting your for the USA be happy now
One person infected is one to many are you people not watching the news. You talk about opening the boards and I understand everyone is hurting but keep in mind that you guys stay complaining the the hospital isn't any good and would rather fly out for any little treatment. Do you know how many ventilators the hospital have if this virus was to become a real issue for the BVI and knowing for a fact that alot of countries have closed their boards what will Happen..You all should considered if 10 people where to get infected and they had other underline health issues what would happen on that little island. Also you should take a look at neighboring islands like Puerto Rico and the increase cases daily because they have let tourists and Belongers in without any strong guidelines. Come on Tortola and I mean Locals and Expat do better one hand has to wash the other and stop being so against each other because no matter what at this very moment and time all are hurting and stand to lose.
