TRELLIS BAY, Beef Island, VI - Persons living in the Virgin Islands (VI) are being encouraged to participate in a survey on a Business Case for the expansion of the Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport on Beef Island in the Virgin Islands (VI).

This is according to Minister for Communications and Works, Honourable Kye M. Rymer (R5) who added that community engagement is important as the project moves forward.

Honourable Rymer said the Ministry in partnership with the BVI Airports Authority, is seeking to engage the public in the exercise as a vital stakeholder in the airport expansion process, "We have pledged to keep the public informed as they are a vital stakeholder in the process of the airport expansion".

He said the values, opinions and feedback from the public are essential for a successful and collaborative project development plan.

Surved will gather valuable insights - PS Smith-Maduro

Meanwhile, the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Communications and Works, Mrs. Elvia Smith-Maduro, explained that the survey was created to gather valuable insights and perspectives from stakeholders, including the public, as the information provided through this survey will play a crucial role in shaping the strategic direction of the project.

So far, significant progress has been made in the ongoing airport development project where the BVI Airports Authority (BVIAA) opened tenders for the development of a business case that it says is crucial to the project’s success.

Following a concluded Request For Proposal (RFP) process, the tendering process attracted interest from both local and international firms and saw a total of eight (8) bids being received and publicly opened on January 4, 2024.

Hon Rymer (R5) expressed his satisfaction with the level of enthusiasm and interest displayed by potential partners, "We see this as a significant step in realizing our vision for the expansion of the Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport and the Territory on a whole. The overwhelming responses from reputable firms, both locally and internationally, affirms the importance and potential of this project," he said.

This survey is a joke. It only allows us to decide how much we agree with the surveyor's opinions. WE DISAGREE!

The data garnered from this skewed garbage will be thrown in our face for years to come as evidence of a public consultation and majorities agreement with whatever plans government are cooking up to steal our money next.

The bvi doesn't need a survey, the airport doesn't need expansion, the reason why it's because we don't see that much tourist traveling to the British virgin islands,eg seaborn and sky high stop for a reason, not much passengers, alot of tourists use American airlines because of connection but yet they can't fly with a full load, liat was the best airlines bvi ever had,,8 years and we waiting to see bvi airline,it looks like it was following the missing Malaysia plain but now we can't find both of them...

Seabourne went bankrupt and Silver Airways. American Airlines can't land or take off with a full load due to the runway being too short (i.e. weight restrictions).

I took one look at the survey and said...no I am not doing this. It does not allow me to say what I feel is in the best interest of the entire BVI, not just Tortola.

This all needs a rethink! Once it is done, there is no turning back!

What kind of bull &h1t survey is this, before you think about any work on the airport you should think about cleaning up this place, for the last seven years the place looks like shit, the road from the airport is one of the worse? What’s going on with this airport expansion is the VIP wants the glory for it without thinking about anything else.

This IS NOT public consultation. This is nonsense. A made up survey with questions to agree with the questions written in favour of the Government. Have public meetings instead.

They say the rastafari would be represented in the committee stage, where you & me have no say, and given special consideration in the formation of the cannabis licensing act 2020. By freedom of religionus persecution wrote into the constitution it was long over do.

Guess what there was no mention of rastafari in the final bill. That is a pattern that repeats. Promise is comfort to a fool & they love to fool us when they have their plans already laid.

I dont blame Elvia as its her bosses (our government) to blame. I well believe she is smart enough to formulate a survey all on her own but I bet they handed her one and we are to figuratively shoot the messenger, probable according to their plan. They want a bias survey to shift the blame and say see see they asked for it!

People do not concern yourself about the roads they will get half fix when it is election time again.
Keep doing what we have been (Voting in the same revolving circle of people) and expecting different results.
DO WE SEE THE MINISTERS KNOW WE ARE CRAZY!

Please include in your survey a question to change the name of the airport to reflect the BVI and not an individual person.
