LONDON, United Kingdom – United Kingdom (UK) publication The Telegraph has named the [British] Virgin Islands (VI) as the number 2 safest destination in the Caribbean, just after Aruba in the Dutch West Indies.

Aruba and the VI are then followed, by Barbados, Dominica, and Grenada.

The Telegraph said the Index, based on data from public sources such as police reports and international polls, is a unique formula to calculate risk based on the number of incidents including mugging, drugs, violent crimes, bribery, property crimes, stolen vehicles, religion, racial tolerance and more.

Advisories issued for Jamaica

This comes as concerns about the safety of visiting the Caribbean have been raised following travel advisories for two popular holiday destinations recently issued by the US Department of State.

In the case of Jamaica, which is 12th on the safe list, the Level 3 score comes with a warning to ‘reconsider travel’. The guidance was issued because of the perceived risk to visitors of violent crime and the quality of the island’s medical care.

“It also states that sexual assaults occur frequently, including at all-inclusive resorts,’ the Telegraph noted according to the US Department of State.

Bahamas received a Level 2 at 15. The “exercise increased caution” guidance has been issued because of the threat of violent crime, some of which is “gang-on-gang” that “primarily affects the local population”. It also warns of recent fatal and non-fatal attacks by sharks.

No warnings for VI by the Foreign Office

It should be noted that the UK Foreign Office also has its own independent travel advice platform that is constantly updated, however, for the VI there is no warning. The last was an update for a Tropical storm.

The FCO; however, confirms that crime rates are high in certain areas of both Jamaica and the Bahamas and details the precautions to follow – including avoiding venturing outside the main tourist areas and beaches, especially if you are alone.

And yet you still attack the Police Commissioner! Seems like him and his team are doing a great job keeping us safe so I will just say Thank you!

That only means the other places are more CRAP! The comparison should not be with more crap. The comparison should be with who we were before and after the significantly increased payroll for UK officers. Most people in this place are so gullible. The place got significantly worst even with additional UK officer on the payroll. Analyse THAT! And a paper claiming one thing does not mean it is true.

Look plain out this place was always quiet way before this 'commissioner' came along. His officers are never around and really it is the culture and small community that holds the peace.

Just keep the cops patrolling the streets mainly in Road Town from 8am to 6pm and we will get to #1.
Too much new cops employed to not been on the road frequently.

@ Real Macoy. That's why I was baffled when I read a few weeks ago that we were introducing foot patrol. As that was precisely what we did before but discontinued for whatever reason.

These results must be brought to the attention of the U.S. press, as they constitute the largest number of visitors and the highest spenders. It would be interesting to see the actual monetary losses associated with destinations that performed poorly. This would serve two crucial purposes: firstly, to inspire a persistent pursuit of improvement and elevated standards, and secondly, to prompt destinations with suboptimal scores to formulate actionable plans. I firmly believe this is not an issue of division between the government and locals; rather, it signifies a collective achievement where everyone played a role in attaining this goal.

Imagine how they tried to BLACK LABEL US with a shooting incident at Fish Bay. When the Head Brass put on the Video to spoil our Rep.( in order to make room for their British counterparts to be requested to come and fill the voids they were creating? WHO REMEMBER, well now look how they things turn to have them labeling us the munger two and climbing in the greatest and best Caribbean visiting destination..
CONNOR JUST ROLLED OVER AND SAID "HERE WE GO AGAIN,, WHO FOOLING WHO".
Well let us better ourselves, nobody could do it for us.

What is the sense of being the safest with the least tourists, the countries that are rated the least safest they get the most tourist per year.
