ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – The Virgin Islands (VI) will be embarking on a ‘National Repentance Week,” beginning September 13, 2021, until the 19th through an initiative spearheaded by the BVI Christian Council, in collaboration with the Government of the VI.

The week will include seven days of prayer and fasting, 24-hour Prayer Circles for the Territory, daily prayers and scripture readings on local radio stations and mid-week services on Tortola, Anegada, Virgin Gorda, and Jost van Dyke.

Virgin Islands Premier and Minister of Finance, Honorable Andrew A. Fahie (R1) said the week of National Repentance comes on the heels of the 21 Days of Prayer and Fasting as the people of the Virgin Islands continues to petition the creator to keep to and protect the territory in difficult times.

Event Coordinator, Pastor Dr Joycelyn Hoyte explained that the purpose of the week is for the territory to understand God’s view of sin and God’s view of what is evil.

“As a country, we claim that we are a Christian nation. If we are a Christian nation, we are supposed to be a nation ruled under God,” she said.

Repentance is an lifestyle change - Dr Hoyte

Dr Hoyte continued, “Repentance is not an event; it is a lifestyle change - a change where we will see persons, instead of turning to their own desires, they turn to the Lord,” she added, “We are calling the nation to repent because there are consequences. We should feel national guilt and understand in God’s sight, sin will be punished, and righteousness exalts a nation,” she said.

The week will culminate on Sunday, September 19, National Repentance Day, with a drive-in service at 3:30 p.m. at the Festival Grounds in Road Town, Tortola—as well as at the Crossroad in Anegada, the Walters’ Recreational Park on Virgin Gorda and the grounds of the Albert Chinnery Administration Building on Jost van Dyke, simultaneously.

A release from the government information service noted that persons are being encouraged to contact their home church for more information.

The events will also be streamed Live on the Government Facebook page on Wednesday, September 15 at midday and on Sunday, September 19 at 3:30 p.m., and members House of Assembly from both sides of the aisle are expected to attend.

Africans were sold Christianity by mostly white people. The story was that if you accepted being downtrodden and abused in this life , you would have paradise in the next. The same story they had sold to the downtrodden and abused in Europe. This suited anyone seeking to exploit or enslave other people.

It’s a clever story because it gives the poor people hope and gives them a reason to be happy while being exploited .

        Many fools believed the story

But of course it is just a story.

Africa had christianity long before europe. It's actually in the bible if you were to read it. And if you study Ethiopian/Modern Egyptian history you will also find it there. The apostles returned to Africa to tell them about the resurrection and they built some of the first most ancient Churches. Seek knowledge before vengeance.

And it's obvious you believe in a story what you just stated has nothing to do with Christianity.... interesting you're part of the "blind leading the blind" crew

The Word of God clearly states "the fool has said in his heart there is no god". "Wisdom is the principal thing." "Therefore in all your getting, get Wisdom and get Understanding".

      @ Not Biblical

Did you ever read the bible for yourself? It also says that "there is no male or female..." "for ye are all one in Christ Jesus". People like to quote parts of the bible to support their interpretations and for the purpose of division. God is also not the author of confusion.

Repentance from wrong doings is the answer only sure answer for the many world corrupted Life styles, that are destructive against righteous living. I is good that the unified Christian Church Counsel has called for prayers. Prayers is vital, immovable defence rock. Repentance, though, must be honest. If not, prayers is no more than a hopeless exercise on a dreamlike merry-go-round
The words repentance is an action word. It means to change direction (a 360 degrees turn) away from a flesh-centered selfish practices to a life of selflessness.
Until then, it is no more than useless exercises.
But if we truely desire positive changes that guarantee our successed, genuine repentance is a must.
True repentance will reconnect with God and our neighbors. True repentance will enable us to do all that we possibly can to help ourselves and others. True repentance will cause us to prioritized God's commandments. It includes, I pray for your good. You pray for my good. I withhold not good from you. You withhold not good from me. I Rob you not of your possession. You rob me not of mine possessions, etc., etc., etc. Anyless is uselessness. Pray on in faith believing, in Jesus name.Amen.

I agree with your post except to point out that a 180 degree turn is necessary, not 360. A complete circle is 360 degrees, which will put you back exactly where you started; 180 degrees puts you in the opposite direction.

Allowed me, please. Repentance should not begin September 13, 2021 and end September 19, 2021 a week after. Repentance should begin now, and become a continuing practice, daily.
(Stop accepting advices, and performing the will of false pretenders for theirs personal material lust.

I didn't want to say this, but I need to. Most people living in the B.V.I are currently experiencing random twiight zone-like symptoms (confusion). This is a factual truth. Believe it or not. Like it or don't. Only the True will free us from this tailsping travel.

We were commanded Biblically to pray to our heavenly Father, in Jesus name without ceasing in order to get the desired answers that pleases God, who alone is power of our help. But if we are to get our requests answered by Him, our motives must first be unselfish.

This is a good thing however let us not use this as a mockery. I would like to leave this scripture for us to ponder and hopefully put in action.

    2 Chronicles 7:14

If my people who are call by my name will humble themselves, pray and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from Heaven and forgive their sins and heal their land.

May God continue to Bless us. Amen
