ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – The Virgin Islands (VI) has proudly secured the #33 spot on The New York Times’ highly anticipated “52 Places to Go in 2025” list. Released annually in early January, this prestigious compilation highlights must-visit destinations, setting the tone for global travel each year.

Notably, the VI is one of only two Caribbean destinations to make the coveted list, underscoring its unique allure.

The listing, authored by Times journalist Nora Walsh, celebrates the remarkable resurgence of iconic VI properties that have risen stronger after the devastation of Hurricanes Irma and Maria in 2017. Featured prominently are the ongoing enhancements at the Bitter End Yacht Club, including the addition of luxurious over-the-water lofts slated for completion this year; the reimagined Biras Marina & Resort; and the stunningly transformed Peter Island Resort, which reopened its doors in December 2024.

'We are thrilled to inspire travellers'- Clive L. McCoy

Director of Tourism Clive L. McCoy, in a press release from the BVI Tourist Board and Film Commission (BVITB&FC), expressed his enthusiasm about the recognition, stating: “While we are no strangers to this prestigious list, our inclusion this year is a testament to the resilience and innovation that define the BVI. The revival of our iconic properties, coupled with increased airlift (including direct non-stop flights from the United States) marks an exciting new chapter for our destination. This accolade is a significant win, showcasing the BVI’s beauty, resilience, and unparalleled hospitality. We are thrilled to inspire travellers to experience all that the British Virgin Islands have to offer.”

The VI’s placement on the list also highlights its growing appeal to a global audience, supported by The New York Times’ vast reach of 153.7 million unique monthly visitors (UVM).

The recognition is expected to further enhance the islands’ reputation as a premier travel destination, attracting discerning visitors eager to explore its pristine beaches, world-class resorts, and vibrant culture.
