ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Concerns have been raised that many in the Virgin Islands are ‘heartless’ when it comes to driving, where they don’t abide by the road traffic laws and their parking is atrocious.

On Speak Out BVI, a local radio talk show aired on June 12, 2012, a caller suggested that something be done by the traffic department to rectify the drivers and their driving and parking abilities, not only in Road Town but around Tortola.

The caller, in his personal conclusion blamed the many road accidents on poor driving ability.

The caller recalled one specific time when he was looking for a parking space in a parking lot that is capable to hold at least a hundred cars. He added that because of unskillful parking, the parking lot was filled, holding only 80 cars.

“Some of the cars were parked over the lines and the others parked too far away from another car, leaving a big space, but is still unable to fit a vehicle.”

The caller suggested that such drivers should get their license revoked and be trained all over again.

I agree with the caller it is so true! Also they park in the road, you have to squeeze through and some of them sitting hin their cars and wont even move it. I am sick of it. They are heartless.

The word is selfish. Not caring about others around you as long as you get what you want. Just like stopping in the middle of the road to drop off , when there is plenty of room to pull off the road and let traffic keep moving.

They park in the road before the stop sign right there by First Bank coming from Palm Grove Park side which holds up the traffic trying to go towards Bobby's.

Driving is a symbol of independence in our culture, and we want our loved ones to keep driving as long as they can. However, as they get older there may come a time when they need to stop driving, especially if they have Alzheimer's disease or another form of dementia. So how do you know when it is time for them to stop and how do you tell them? First it is important to know the signs of unsafe driving. Some of these signs include: driving at inappropriate speeds (either fast or slow), trouble staying in a lane, difficulty seeing the side of the road, problems making turns, getting lost frequently, having a slower response rate, stopping for no reason, getting frequent tickets, and being easily distracted while driving.. To the public and families I say look and read this message as the life you may save may be your own!!!

texting an driving pushes the limits of logic, by way of your only able to do just so many things and driving and texting are polar opposites and when you are doing it your an accident looking for a place to happen

Not to mention they actually speed up when they see you trying to merge into traffic.

This is very very true. Drivers also make their own parking space by parking in the center of the parking lots, making it difficult for vehicles to go in and out of legitimate parking space

I agree with what the caller is trying to say! I am just 21 and had my licence for not even 2 yrs and the kind of driving i seeing in Tortola is very disturbing. I does see hard back man and especially woman parking in a space and is like them just learning how to park. I does have to question myself about who does give these residents of the BVI Licence. Something needs to be done and quick because Tortola already have soo much cars with limited parking space and for the people to park so bad and drive so reckless!!!
