VI delegation to UK next week to include Opposition Leader
A press release from the government said the delegation includes Deputy Premier and Minister for Financial Services, Labour and Trade Honourable Lorna G. Smith, OBE, Executive Director of International Business Regulations Ayana I. Glasgow, Governance Reform Delivery Manager Kedrick E. Malone and Kenneth Baker Managing Director of the Financial Services Commission.
They will engage with key political and media stakeholders and private sector representatives from across the financial and professional services sector. His Excellency Mr Daniel Pruce will join the meeting with the Overseas Territories Minister.
The delegation’s agenda includes discussions with political leaders, media, and private sector representatives from the financial and professional services industries.
Premier Wheatley and Deputy Premier Smith will also highlight the progress that the Virgin Islands is making in implementing the recommendations of the Caribbean Financial Action Task Force Mutual Evaluation Report in their discussions.
Climate Change matters also on agenda
To address key concerns surrounding the impact of climate change in the Virgin Islands, the delegation will also meet with a group of private sector climate finance specialists.
Premier Wheatley said: “I was determined to ensure that we could meet representatives of the new United Kingdom Government as soon as possible following the UK election, and I am very pleased that we have such a rich programme of meetings ahead of us. Engaging face-to-face with parliamentarians, officials, regulators, and the private sector is critical to building stronger ties and establishing the modern partnership, we seek with the United Kingdom. I am particularly honoured that the Speaker of the House of Commons, The Right Honourable Sir Lindsay Hoyle Member of Parliament, is hosting a reception for the delegation to meet with new parliamentarians and friends of the British Virgin Islands in the State Rooms at the Speaker’s House. This will be an opportunity to promote an understanding of the British Virgin Islands and strengthen relations with those in attendance.”
Opposition Members also part of delegation
Premier Wheatley and Governor Pruce initially revealed the travel plans to the UK during a joint press conference with Governor Pruce where they announced that the implementation of the Commission of Inquiry (CoI) Recommendations would not be done before the August 31, 2024, deadline which was set.
Opposition Leader Hon Ronnie W. Skelton (AL) and Opposition Member Hon Marlon A. Penn (R8) will also form part of the delegation.

Well we can easily afford this money. Just keep VG clinic closed, continue enjoying our beloved potholes, smell sewage all over town, children going to school hungry and, and, and
seems like that won't be happening. These politicians are so ridiculous. Why can't we live in peace
and harmony, without the constant fighting and pulling down? All for greed and power.
