VI celebrates King’s birthday with ceremonial parade
The venue was Queen Elizabeth II Park where scores of persons came out to witness the parade in an event marked with marching from various groups.
Groups included local Law enforcement officers from the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF), HM Customs and HM Prison, Immigration Department, Pathfinders, and other religious organisations, along with local educational and sports organisations.
Taking the salute at the parade was Governor Daniel Pruce, who later presented various medals to selected law enforcement officers as a commendation for their excellence in service to the Territory.
Among those seen in attendance were Premier and Minister of Finance Dr the Hon Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) and his wife Carolyn M. Shallow-Wheatley, Deputy Governor David D. Archer Jr and family, Minister for Communications and Works Hon Kye M. Rymer (R5) and Commissioner of Police Mark Collins.
Greetings to King Charles III
The Governor in a message of greeting to the King said, “May it please Your Majesty, with humble duty and on behalf of all His Majesty’s loyal subjects in the Virgin Islands, I am delighted to convey our good wishes and most loyal affectionate greetings on the occasion of Your Majesty’s birthday."
He said, in exchange, the King thanked the government and the people of the VI for the birthday greetings and he extended warm wishes to the territory.
While the King’s Birthday is on November 14, his Official Birthday is the selected day in most Commonwealth realms on which the birthday of the monarch is officially celebrated in those countries.
One of the official activities of this public holiday is the release of the King’s Birthday Honours’ List where the Sovereign honours people across the commonwealth for services to the community or nation.
