VI boatman held in USVI for failing to comply with CBP stop order
CHARLOTTE AMALIE, St Thomas, USVI- A [British] Virgin Islands (VI) national was arrested on December 28, 2021, in St Thomas on a criminal charge related to his failure to stop his vessel when ordered to do so by United States Customs and Border Protection, Air and Marine (CBP-AMO) agents.
According to court documents, William Malone was operating the vessel in Coral Bay, St John.
CBP-AMO agents activated their blue lights and sirens to stop Malone’s vessel, and verbally ordered him to stop the vessel.
Malone did not comply. Agents fired several warning rounds and, when Malone did not stop, fired a disabling round into his engine. Malone then turned off the engine, after traveling for a short distance.
Malone facing 5-year prison term
Malone is charged with failure to heave to, under 18 U.S.C. §2237(a)(1). If convicted, Malone faces a maximum penalty of 5 years in prison. A federal district court judge will determine any sentence after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.
CBP-AMO and Homeland Security Investigations are investigating the case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Adam Sleeper is prosecuting the case.
A criminal complaint is merely an allegation and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

WHAT AN IDIOT! What was he trying to hide and being in the U.S. waters and not stopping? Anything that he gets thrown at him, he deserves. Too much criminal activity going on.
@Asura.. why harrassing BVI people? Dont lump me in the ignorance. His @#$ was told to stop but he kept going. CPB are not joke enforcement people unlike BVI . He deserves whatever he gets. Silly young boy.
I hope no one get mad at me for saying this, tell me, when you were born, did the midwife accidentally drop you on your cone shaped head? Harassing BVI PEOPLE? The j$%%^&$$ was in US territory and disobeyed a order to stop. Dude he was not in Tortola where people get away with the nonsense. He better be glad they did not blast his behind and the boat out of the water. Tell your BVI PEOPLE DEM TO STOP GOING DOWN TO STT TO RUN THEIR DRUGS AND THEY WILL NOT GET HARASSED. He got 5 years to see what true prison living is, not a hotel like up on the hill.
