VI archers win Nevis Challenge
The tournament commenced on the Saturday with an Opening Ceremony on the Greens, located in Bath village, at which the competitors and spectators were addressed by Hon Hazel Brandy-Williams- Junior Minister of Sports and then the competition began.
The competition involved four categories of shoot distances, including 15 meters, 30 meters, Federal-50 meters and a Field shoot, which took place at Mount Travers in the Pinneys area.
The Field Shot proved the most difficult aspect of the competition, as the competitors had to shoot at targets from varying heights while traveling through a bushy area.
The VI team comprised of 5 members, 4 students and an Instructor, Winette Lawrence.
Adriel Singh took Gold in both the 30m and 18m, Jahmaine Liburd won Silver in 30 meters and 18 meters, Teandra Donovan grabbed Bronze in the 30 meters, Shaniah Daignauth also a Bronze in the 18 meters, whilst Lawrence took Gold in 18 meters and Gold in the field shoot.
“The Association wanted to see how the team would perform in a different environment as well as get an idea on how their training was progressing, so we could make adjustments or modifications” noted the Federation’s President, Rick Smith.
The next tournament is the Juan Enrico Barrios Cup in Puerto Rico, at the end of April.
