LAS VEGAS, Nevada, USA- Five talented athletes from the Virgin Islands Field Archery Federation (VIFAF) recently travelled to Las Vegas, United States of America to compete in the world’s largest and most prestigious indoor archery tournament— Las Vegas Shoot 2025!

More Than a Competition – A World-Class Experience

The Vegas Shoot brought together 5,000+ archers from 70+ countries for three intense days of competition, featuring the iconic three-spot, 20-yard “Vegas Round.”

But it wasn’t just about scoring points. The team attended expert-led seminars like: ‘Steady Shots: Unlocking Stability and Strength for Archers’ and ‘Secrets to Mental Performance.

They also met over 100 top vendors from around the world, getting hands-on with the latest gear and networking with leaders in the sport.

Athlete Highlights

• Aviel Georges-Cruz made his international and indoor debut, placing 13th in his flight despite early equipment issues—an inspiring show of perseverance.
• Xavier Buxo overcame major gear problems on days one and two but powered back on the final day to finish 13th in his group. Great comeback!
• Ritseeniyah Georges-Buxo, who also coached younger teammates, earned 4th place in her flight—taking home a cash prize and making the territory proud!
• Ava Ghiorse pushed through a shoulder injury, finishing the tournament with a positive mindset and deeper understanding of pacing and self-care.
• Kasadiyah Baird hit major milestones, earning her 210 and 215 Club keychains and her Level 4 VI Sharpshooters pin with a score of 251/300—all in her first year shooting compound! Even after an arm injury mid-competition, she finished strong.

A Proud Moment for VI Archery

Thanks to generous sponsorship from Smith’s Ferry Services, the local archers were able to transport their archery gear to St Thomas free of charge—making this international opportunity more accessible for the participants.

This was only the second time the Virgin Islands has been represented at the Las Vegas Shoot and, according to the Virgin Islands Field Archery Federation, the archers delivered with heart, focus, and professionalism. “We couldn’t be more proud!”

They won Medals in Jamaica last year and Trinidad the year before. Why are you so negative? Did you ever win anything? Are you even athletic?

People have no idea the kind of skill needed to hit that little yellow circle. I Looked at a few sessions, and tried it before the kids came in. Fist off, it is a workout. I was told the bow I used was a beginners training bow, at just 12 pounds. One little girl had just m oved up to 28 pounds. They make it look so easy, especially the barebow shooters
