GREENLAND, Tortola, VI- The young legs of Virgin Gorda United, coupled with a little luck, did the job for the visitors as they edged past Wolues, 2-1, in a bruising encounter in the final of the FA Cup at the football field in Greenland on Sunday, July 28, 2024.

The third-place game between One Love and Panthers FC was a ding-dong affair that went all the way to sudden death penalty kicks before One Love got the results in their favour, 6-5. The score was 4-4 after regulation time.

VG United used their pace and energy to take the game to Wolues from the time the game started and this strategy brought results, as they found the back of the nets in just the 6th minute when a ball was whipped into the goal area and slipped past all players and even the goalkeeper. The goal was credited to T'Koy Morton.

Wolues would hit back in the 78th minute and looked set to make it 2 goals after the Virgin Gorda team appeared to have run out of some steam. However, against the run of play, VG United stunned the Tortola side when Joel Mars' struck from the top of the 18-yard box.

VG United continued to be on the back foot and should have conceded a goal with minutes to go when a Wolues player had an opportunity to strike the ball home at point-blank range but somehow sent the ball into the night sky.

One Love win thriller

Earlier, One Love United started with at least three men short of a full team but still found themselves scoring the first goal.

It would be a back-and-forth affair that got heated at times and a player from Panthers FC was even shown a red card.

In the dying minutes of the game, the Panthers were leading 4-3 when a handball was called against one of their defenders and a penalty was given. The penalty was; however, missed.

With less than a minute to go; however, another handball was called against the Panthers and another penalty was given.

This time Richard Morgan of One Love would make no mistake.

One Love’s other goals came from Travalta Francis in the 12th minute, and Johari Lacey in the 32nd and 52nd minutes. Panthers' goal scorers were Mohammed Shadi Tarabein in the 7th minute, Nigel Sanderson in the 23rd and 76th and Pervell Asson in the 73rd.

Sanderson would end as the highest goal-scorer with 9 goals, although there was no Golden Boot Award.

Panthers also seemed set to win the penalty kickout after making two saves; however, their remaining penalty takers were far from convincing, and One Love would end up taking the win.

The FA Cup was organised by the BVI Football Association (BVIFA).
