VG United blank One Love to win Emmett Caines KO Cup

EAST END, Tortola, VI- VG United are the winners of the first-ever Emmett Caines Pre-Season Knockout Tournament organised by the BVI Football Association (BVIFA).

The Virgin Gorda boys, who had defeated fellow Virgin Gorda team Sugar Boys in the semi-finals, blanked defending League Champions One Love 4-0 in the Final at Greenland on Sunday, October 8, 2023.

The reliable Bernard Cumberbatch was again on the scoresheets, as he gave VG United the lead in just the 4th minute to further boost his team’s confidence.

Jaadon Quashie would then give VG United a 3-nil lead when he found the back of the nets in the 47th and 51st minutes.

VG United’s fourth goal was attributed to an own goal.

Memorial Tournament

The Emmett Caines Knockout Tournament was played in memory of former football player and administrator Emmett C. Caines, the late husband of former legislator Alvera Maduro-Caines.

Maduro-Caines witnessed the Final and also assisted in the presentation of prizes.

The 10 participating teams were One Love, President’s Cup Champions Wolues, Virgin Gorda United, Rebels, Islanders, Lion Heart, Positive, Old Madrid, Sugar Boys, and Panthers.
