Vere H. E. Browne ousted as Antigua & Barbuda Police Commissioner
The Antigua and Barbuda Police Service Commission handed the top cop a letter of suspension a few days ago, according to our reporter on the ground in Antigua.
The letter accuses Browne, an Antigua and Barbuda national, of dereliction of duty and irresponsibility.
A copy of the letter obtained by our news site revealed that the correspondence does not indicate the length of the suspension but it says Mr Browne, who has a law degree, will receive full pay while away from the post.
The letter orders him “to hand over command of the Royal Police of Antigua and Barbuda and the Fire Brigade and all articles under your control to Acting Deputy Commissioner of Police Wendell Robinson”.
When reached by this news site moments ago, today January 16, 2015 Mr Browne said he had no comment but promised to call back. Up to publication time, he had not done so.
However, a top ranking police officer in the Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda told our newsroom in an invited comment that Mr Browne’s removal was allegedly “pure politics…remember he was recruited by the last government who is now out of power and everyone knows he was doing a great job under the financial constraints…”
Veteran of the RVIPF- overlooked for top job in VI
Mr Browne served in the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force up to the rank of Chief Inspector. He had been a 30-year veteran of the local Police Force.
In 2010 Mr Browne had applied for the position of Deputy Commissioner of Police in the Virgin Islands but was overlooked.
Instead, a United Kingdom citizen David Morris- at the time Assistant Chief Constable in the South Wales Police force in the UK- was given the job by his pal at the time, Governor William B. McCleary, another UK National, over many qualified locals, belongers and other regional persons.
It is this news site’s understanding that when the post of Police Commissioner became vacant in the Virgin Islands Police Force in 2013 although the top cop in Antigua and Barbuda, Browne, who lived most of his professional and adult life in the Virgin Islands and maintained land and property here, had expressed an interest.

It is NOT politicians, it's the greedy stupid voters. The Caribbean is one of the only places where despite glaring corruption, backward policies etc., you have persons holding elected offices for 20 + years, while the young, vibrant, educated persons who want to move the country forward are ignored. Why? Because the people that really care about the country will not be giving hand outs and favors for votes, they want to run the country. The voters want the status quo to continue so they vote the same old over and over. Only when they don't get their way you hear them complain but they don't give a $%%% about the country. Politicians don't just get up and sit in those seats, they are voted in by voters of each country.
All I will say is when you set about to exploit you subordinates make sure you are prepare because trouble will be waiting at your door step
What a man sow that shall he also reap! fraud! So he can go Tola and join de other RATS!
