Utility company from Antigua wins 2025 CARILEC Lineworkers Rodeo

WICKHAM’S CAY I, Tortola, VI- Antigua Public Utilities Authority (APUA) are the 2025 CARILEC Lineworkers Rodeo champions.

The rodeo took place behind Ralph T. O'Neal Administration Complex on Tortola in the Virgin Islands, bringing the curtains down on the three-day CARILEC Lineworkers Rodeo, Symposium, and Field Safety Training, which was held under the theme ‘Informed. Empowered. Safe’. 

This is the first time the annual CARLIEC event was held in the Virgin Islands, where 14 utility companies, from the region and international community, participated in the event yesterday, Sunday, April 27, 2025.

Prizes

Twelve awards were presented following the hours-long competition, and the winners are as follows: 

Pole Speed Climber/The Alfredo Trophy (Experienced)- BVIEC (Third Place), Bahamas Power and Light (BPL) (Second Place), Grenada Electricity Services Ltd. (GRENLEC) (First Place)

Pole Speed Climber (Apprentice)- APUA (Third Place), APUA (Second Place), St. Kitts Electricity Company Ltd. (SKELEC) (First Place)

Hurt Man Rescue (Apprentice)- Barbados Light & Power Company (BLPC) (Third Place), APUA (Second Place), St Lucia Electricity Services Ltd. (LUCILEC) (First Place)

3 Phase Installation (Apprentice)- APUA (Third Place), GRENLEC (Second Place), APUA (First Place)

Mystery Event (Apprentice)- Barbados (Third Place), GRENLEC (Second Place), BVIEC (First Place)

This is the first win for APUA, which brought an end to the BVI Electricity Corporation’s (BVIEC) winning streak. The BVIEC won the rodeo in 2023 (Saint Lucia) and 2024 (Antigua). 

Other participating utility companies were Anguilla Electricity Company Ltd. (ANGLEC), Belize Electricity Limited (BEL), N.V. Elmar (Electricity Company Aruba N.V.), N.V. GEBE (St. Maarten Electricity Company), Nevis Electricity Company Ltd. (NEVLEC), St Vincent Electricity Services Limited (VINLEC), and Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority (VIWAPA) – US Virgin Islands (Gold Sponsor).

    I said so, in the days I was working and Joel Isaiah and David and safay and others it was more competitive than now, if baby joe was around and in this time there would be no doubt BVI would win also Isaiah.
