FREDERIKSTED, St. Croix, USVI- The V.I Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred Monday night, August 20, 2024, near Jordan’s Supermarket on King Street in Frederiksted.

The 911 call center received multiple notifications from the ShotSpotter system at approximately 8:08 p.m., reporting 49 rounds fired in the area, the VIPD said. Several citizens also reported hearing gunshots to the center.

Officers from the VIPD, members of the Criminal Investigation Bureau and forensic team were dispatched to the scene. While there, they received information that a possible victim was en route to the Juan F. Luis Hospital in a private vehicle.

The victim, who has since been identified at 38-year-old Jahni Hamilton of Estate La Grange, was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.

Investigations into the shooting is ongoing and further details regarding the circumstances or possible suspects have not yet been released by the VIPD.
