According to the police report, the tourists were at the crosswalk and, seeing traffic stopped in all directions, began crossing the road. The absence of a pedestrian control device at the southwest corner of Lucinda Millin Homes contributed to the situation. A white 2023 Toyota Prius, traveling east on De Beltjen Road, made a left turn on a red traffic light onto William G. Lewis Lane without stopping and collided with the two individuals.

The impact caused both pedestrians to become airborne, the VIPD said. Emergency services transported the victims to the Schneider Regional Medical Center for treatment.

The male pedestrian sustained abrasions on both elbows and his right shoulder, as well as pain on the right side of his neck. The female victim suffered a hairline fracture to her right hip, abrasions on the right side of her face and arm, and an abrasion to her left palm. Both individuals received medical attention and were later released.
